In the Game Manuel it says:

G5: Only one ALLIANCE member may be in each HUMAN PLAYER ZONE at a time.

My question is how many human players can your Alliance have in a game? Can you have a third human player placing totes next to the Human Player Zones while the other human players are putting a tote in the chute in both of the other Human Player Zones?

Certainly. Just make sure the third human player puts the totes just outside of the human player zone so that he never actually goes in.
