The COG is the best place - the question is, with how much load to you optimize? We're looking to mount our strafe wheel onto a piece of aluminum angle or two which bolt to the holes on the top and bottom of the side rails (we're using the KOP chassis). Then, we can adjust this placement relatively easily when we find the COG. This could still be used with sprung suspensions.
Agree it's not ideal, but we want to cross the scoring platform without getting hung up and wothout the complexity of a raiseable wheel. If it becomes a problem even with a gyro, we may add another omni on the other side.

If you do, put it on a separate gearbox, or have a differential between them so that you don't create a counter-torque when rotating or turning.

Re: Mount Middle Slide Wheel

We too are going to have mount the slider wheel in the middle.
I am concerned about it hitting the ramp.
Does anyone have a picture or drawing of a mount involving a spring?

Thanks in advanced.

BOSS is on a distinguished road
Re: Mount Middle Slide Wheel

We are running a slide drive, we are using a pneumatic cylinder to drive the slide drive down, so far we have not had an issue with going over the ramp. We put the center wheel on with its own gear box that tilts in and out of the frame.
