Recycling Bin Scoring

My team is coming up with our strategy and we were wondering if you can stack 1 recycling bin, put it on 2 tote stacks and get points for both?

The recycling bin is scored based on how far above the ground it is, irrelevant of the number of totes beneath it.

I think you mean to ask that one recycling bin balanced atop two stacks of totes will score points for BOTH stacks, i.e. double points for if the bin was atop only one tote stack. However, if you look at the scoring rules on page 20 of the Game Manual, then you can see:

Points for a scored RECYCLING CONTAINER are based on the lowest LEVEL in which any portion of the RECYCLING CONTAINER resides.

So think about it as: the totes score points. The recycling bin scores points. Their scores are not relevant, except that the recycling bin must be placed on top of totes in order to get high enough to score points. Therefore, one recycling bin at max can score 4 (points/level) * 6 (max level) = 24 points, regardless of how many totes stacks it is touching.
