Match Crew

I was looking in the rules, and I couldn't find anywhere that clarified how many people can be down in the field per team during a match. Could somebody clarify this?
Thanks!

Re: Match Crew

G28 DRIVE TEAMS must wear their designated buttons in a clearly visible location at all times while in the ARENA. During a Playoff
MATCH, the ALLIANCE CAPTAIN must clearly display the designated ALLIANCE CAPTAIN identifier (e.g. hat or armband).
VIOLATION: MATCH will not start until the situation is corrected. Those not displaying identification will be asked to leave the
ARENA.

G29 Only the DRIVE TEAMS for the current MATCH are allowed in their respective ALLIANCE STATIONS.
VIOLATION: MATCH will not start until the situation is corrected. Those not displaying identification will be asked to leave the
ARENA.

So as before, only your drive team can be down on the field at the time of your match. However....

5.4.5 Pit Crews
During the Playoff MATCHES, extra Team members may be needed to maintain the ROBOT between MATCHES because of the distance
between the FIELD and the pit area. For this reason, each Team is permitted to have three (3) additional “pit crew” members who can also
help with needed ROBOT repairs/maintenance. Pit Crew members cannot be in the ALLIANCE STATION during a MATCH.

Re: Match Crew

One coach (student or mentor) two drivers (students) and one human player (student). During the playoff matches only, teams can have up to three pit crew members in the field area (students or mentors).

Teams also get 1-2 media members "field side", so if you can train them in maintenance, its an extra helper while in queue.

I have seen teams stripped of their media badge for allowing their media person work on the robot. The media pass is for people taking photos or video, not an extra hand in queue.

And nothing mandates two drivers and a coach, the only minimums really being one driver and one human player. However, most teams like having as many people as allowed.

Re: Match Crew

If your team might be limiting its drive team size, also realize that there are logistical challenges. You'll need two people for most robots, plus one for your driver station, and one for your cart. Fewer people than that has tended to slow down the match turnarounds for teams. (This has the potential to earn a delay of game penalty, though it usually just results in warnings and offers to help.)

Also note that last year the Q&A indicated that you can't have more different people just for transporting the robot, e.g. if you don't have drive team members physically capable of doing so. (You can redo the Q&A; the rule hasn't changed. It seemed like it might be accidentally problematic for teams with disabilities.)

Huh. Regionals I've been to don't seem to have taken issue with doing this.l I guess it's more a "ymmv" thing. At any rate OP, I'd probably defer to Mr. Rotolo's advice rather than mine.

It's one media person and they're not supposed to be working on the robot.

In Montreal in 2012 I had two teams push the limits on bringing people down to the field. One team was a veteran team who should have known better. I told them only people with drivers button are allowed down by the field. They had previously participated at GTR East earlier in the season and still had their drivers buttons so next match eight of them showed up. I siced the head ref on them.
The other one was a rookie team who bought an extra three people to the field to put the robot on the field for them. After telling them for the fifth time to not do that I had enough and told them if I had to tell them one more time to not do that I was going to report them to the head judge and have them stripped of their eligibility for awards. They didn't do it anymore.

Seriously though, the rules are very clear on this subject and should be enforced.

Volunteer badges should also be for volunteers not those who volunteered earlier in the week but down on the field to help out their drive team during elminations.

Re: Match Crew

The media/photo passes depends on the venue. Some, ones that are tight on space, may not allow any but may have a special area reserved for them. Other, roomier venues, may allow more.

Media badges have been striped not just for working on the robot but for coaching from the sidelines, or for consistently getting in the way of the field personnel.

Last year at championships the media person on an opposing alliance took up residence in the loading station to take pictures and the human player collided with him when he was going to load the ball.. I was furious and yelled at the guy to get out of there immediately. Now looking back on it I wish I would have pointed him out to the head ref. That action deserved a red card for directly interfering with the opposing alliance ability to operate during a match.
You can see the collision at the 53 second of the video and you can see me moving in to move him out of there.
