If you were there, can you comment on the day's proceedings? Something detailed, if possible. Thanks. (I'm fueled by the need to know).

The day started really started around 9 or so... each team had about 6 practice times, not all teams used every opertunity to do this though (I guess they where fixing stuff)

That was about the whole day... overall it seemed relaxed.

P.s. Just to give you a Idea of the prices of the food.... its $3 for a small bottle of Dew/Soda and water is $3 too!

I searched BAE Systems website and there was nothing there. There wasn't even anything on FIRST from what I saw today.

I think Joel was asking for specific information about the teams' robots and how they performed.

What were predominant strategies?
Was there stacking tacking place?
Did teams successfully use the autonomous mode?

..stuff like that.

Well from What I saw when I was not wirking on our bot, was that the predominant stragetys were for lack of a better term run around and hit stuff, some teams were succesful in stacking but not many, and there was only a few autonomous modes that actually made it up the bridge and hit boxes. I can't wait for tomorrow though, Recycled Percussion and A comedian!! all in all a good day.

I work at an ISP that has a server running near the Verizon Wireless arena. We were going to set up a two-hub 802.11b network stream and do a streaming webcast off of my friend's powerbook and my digital video camera. We were playing on the powerbook today--you might have seen me typing on it, wearing one of Team 1073's BLINDING ORANGE SHIRTS OF DEATH.

Back to the topic...

Unfortunately, it seems "Verizon Wireless" is somewhat of a non-sequiter, as FIRST has disallowed the use of Wi-Fi and therefore crushed our plans.

However, if someone could pull the proper strings and allow us to utilize one of the internet connections I presume the FIRST judges have, then I'm sure that we could rig up a streaming webcast for at least saturday.

*hint hint*

Could someone who watched the practice rounds elaborate on how effective stackers were? What happened? What was wrong? Why wasn't there much stacking? Was stacking just a bad strategy or was it because of inefficient/bad robots? etc etc

stacking is just a horrible strategy. It depends too much on box orientation and can't be done efficiently.

Stackers weren't useful- i dont think i saw one box stacked the entire time at VCU. Just not enough time to orient the boxes. The main strategy seemed to be knocking boxes onto your side and knocking the human-made stacks over. Stacks just get knocked down.

there was a few very impressive machine's out there. the first impressive machine i saw took note of was team 236 the techon tickets. there machine looked and drove sweet. the only issue i can think of is that everytime i walked by there pit no student's working on the bot, it was always adults now it could be totaly possible that i only happened to walk by at the wrong time.(very jealous of there pit set up)

just a side not but if you thought you were going to stack more then 2 in any way shape or form, sadly to say but you were wrong! not only was every stack getting knocked over but ever stacker or bot that wasn't able to get under the bar pretty much ended on the wrong side at least once.
