2015 Control System Wiring Overview Drawing

For the 2014 control system, we had a very useful overview of the wiring here:

http://www3.usfirst.org/sites/defaul...icalLayout.pdf

I've not been able to find an equivalent overview of the 2015 control system.

Has anyone seen one?

Check out the screenstepslive site for the new control system, linked from the FRC technical Resources -> electrical menu item: https://wpilib.screenstepslive.com/s/4485/m/24166

The "Wiring the 2015 FRC control system" link includes this picture:

Thanks for the link! Unfortunately, this one seems to be a low resolution image as when I scale it to print 24" x 36" for wall hanging, it all gets a bit fuzzy. Anyone have a better resolution image?

Is it necessary to print and hang on the wall? Reading from a laptop or printing on a 8.5x11 should be enough to see and wire correctly.

If you run the jpeg through a vector-tracing converter (e.g. vectormagic.com) you can zoom in without fuzz. The resolution won't actually be any better, but the blurriness will turn into crisp approximations. It certainly won't be perfect, but it might be good enough.

We have a 24x36 poster of it hanging on our wall, and it really isn't that bad because we aren't looking at it close up enough to see the fuzzy.

One tip, though... replace the VRM with a picture of the real thing. It confuses our less experienced students to look for it and have it be the wrong color.

It's been a great tool, though, especially for getting less familiar students to think about how the system works. Many thanks to 358.

The ethernet camera is powered illegally in this drawing.

Quote:
R32 The Wireless Bridge power must be supplied by the 5V 2A (“Radio”) output of a Cross the Road Electronics Voltage Regulator
Module (VRM) (P/N: am-2857, 217-4245) and must be the only load connected to those terminals.
The ethernet camera is another electrical load connected to those terminals.

It would be legal to use the device used to power the radio in recent years(grey metal heatsink-looking thing with 4 wires) off the 12v2A side of the VRM to power the camera. If you are doing this, I personally recommend powering your PCM(if using) off a wago slot on the PDP due to the current draw of compressor, solenoids, radio, and camera with the 20A fuse. You don't want any chance of your radio going out.

It would also be legal to use a second VRM for the camera.

It would also be legal to use some other custom circuit off the wagos on the PDP, such as this: http://www.adafruit.com/products/1385 to power the camera

Other than that(which is really a minor thing), really great informative picture!

Better now.
The original was done before the 2015 rules came out and used for Beta presentations during the Fall.

Would 358 be willing to share the original file that your posted pdf is based on?

Re: 2015 Control System Wiring Overview Drawing

I would if I had it.
This is simply a Photoshop job based on a preliminary version FIRST released a year ago.

The easiest thing to do to get a hi-res version is to rebuild it at the higher resolution (what pixel count are you thinking of?).
The existing one was constructed at 1200x789, then it gets fuzzy from the lossy jpeg compression I used.

Some of the images are hi-res (PCM/VRM/PDP/roboRIO), while others are low-res and would have to be retaken. That is a pretty quick job.
The only hard part for me is making the line crossings look pretty...

Re: 2015 Control System Wiring Overview Drawing

Mark:

I'm not trying to get you to do new work.

I just thought the original was available and already hi-res so it would be a no-brainer to share it.

If it's not an easy task, I'm sure you have more important things to be doing during build season.

I was hoping to be able to get a hi-res version that I could print off at 24" x 36" and share with some rookie teams who are struggling with the "big picture" of robot wiring.

Here is a preliminary higher resolution version

I may change it some more, but this probably fits your purposes.

Let me know if I missed something.
