Re: 2015 Arizona East Regional

Team 1700 is very excited to compete in Arizona Regional this year - it's our first time at this event and we are all looking forward to meeting everyone.

We're wondering if any Arizona team would be willing to help us with shipping? Usually FIRST gives us a drayage location to ship to but this year, they are telling us they can't guarantee we can use it at this time. So they suggested we ask a local Arizona team if they would be able to receive our crate and help us transport it to the competition site.

Thanks so much! Good luck to everyone for the last few days of the build season!

Hi Team 1700,

2486 would happily like to provide a place to ship your robot for the 2015 AZ East regional. We live in Flagstaff, Arizona, roughly 2 hours north of the venue. However we'd be happy to drive your robot down to the venue early Thursday morning. We can be reached at fusd1robotics@gmail.com . Can't wait to see you there!

Re: 2015 Arizona East Regional

Hey everyone,

We are really excited for this week and can't wait to compete. I just have one question. According to the agenda for the AZ East Regional it states that there is a load in period Wednesday night from 6-8pm. We have never brought our robot during this time (we usually do it Thursday since Wednesday is a school night) so my question is: During this time period are we allowed to bring just are robot, or all our supplies? I'm trying to determine how big a vehicle we need to transport everything. Thanks for your help.

Re: 2015 Arizona East Regional

Normal procedure (at most regionals, including AZ) is to let you bring your bagged robot, and all the equipment/supplies/COTS parts/withheld (fabricated) parts in to the venue, and leave them in your pit. But you can't set anything up at all, you can just leave it there.

Be sure to bring the robot lockup form (put it in an envelope, taped to the bag, to help you remember it!) so the Robot Inspectors can check and sign it, so you will be able to get to work on your robot right away Thursday when the pits open to teams at 8:30

Are there any plans of a webcast? I'm hoping to make it Saturday, but won't be there Friday.

I'm not sure about the webcast but 842 plans on recording the field with a high quality camera and uploading it here like last year: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCn8...rzPkH6A/videos

Depending on connection speed, the plan is to upload right after every match but no promises.

If there is a live stream, it will be up Friday Morning.
We're still working out some internet connectivity issues.
We'll post the link here if/when it is up.

Re: 2015 Arizona East Regional

Odd ruling watching the webcast of Q51:
842 ended the match touching a previously scored (>3 secs ago) Coop stack in an attempt to score more landfill totes.
Announcer went nuts about they just ruined 40 pts (not surprising that a game announcer wouldn't know the specifics of Coop scoring)
Surprisingly, they posted the score without any Coop points (not even a set)
After a long delay (seemingly teams were discussing with refs), the announcer said the the refs had decided to count the stack. However, instead of a rules clarification he said it was in the spirit of GP that they counted it.
After another match, he tried to clarify that ruling by implying that they had moved 842 away after the buzzer and since the stack stood for 3 sec that is why it counted (not because coop points are awarded instantly and can't be descored).

Is there still confusion among the refs at Arizona over the nuances of Coop points scoring or is the announcer just not conveying their rulings well?

If it is just announcer confusion, it might be good for the audience of varied rules familiarity to explain how the coop stack points score permanently (3 secs after robots break contact, many refs give a hand count). Perhaps an extreme example, where 842 decided to disassemble the scored Coop stack and place the yellow totes upside-down on top of step containers and still scores 40 pts, would drive home the point.

Re: 2015 Arizona East Regional

There wasn't enough to really tell on the live stream, sounded like the contact wasn't actually broken when buzzer went off. But, who knows...Only the refs. know for sure, and they met and awarded the coop. score. The points are awarded immed. after the stack is completed, and you break contact w/ the completed stack, and then 3 seconds have elapsed.

Nobody should expect the Announcer to parse the rules of the game like we do. That's what those great Ref's are for. They (Voice game announcers), are hired (volunteer for the endless play-by-play color commentary), for their ceasless voices and high volume of air and low caloric intake! Lol, and he does a good dang job of it too.

Just too bad all that coop. hard work is for naught when it comes to The Actual Playoffs. But it sure can hype those Q Points averages a whole bunch. Now I really see why the picks are all over the board after the top 12 are used up. Took 4 weeks to really see all there is to see.

Oh, a previously scored coop.. They were absolutely right then...Missed that in your post. And in the stream.

Thank You to Plasma Robotics for the Live Stream also! (Only wish is that it was full field all the time is all...But, no complaints, thoroughly enjoy having it live). Thanx again!
