Smart Dashboard Stale buttons

Hi,

We are trying to set up our main driver station with a view that will work for our competitions and are removing extra buttons and debug information that we don't want. However, whenever we delete them from the smart dashboard, they come back! The buttons we remove aren't in OI.java or anywhere else in our code, but they persist. The issue seems to be that we have stale data, and looking through the WPI help page we found this (http://wpilib.screenstepslive.com/s/...smartdashboard) page explaining how to fix it, but it isn't very descriptive. How do you restart both the robot and the smart dashboard at the same time? Does anyone know how to stop these buttons from resetting?

Thanks!

Does it still persist after restarting the computer? We were having that issue, then magically the next meeting the buttons were gone.

Thanks for the quick response!

I'm not sure actually. Next week we will be able to get our hands on the driver station and our test robot and we will try restarting the computer and seeing what that does.

Re: Smart Dashboard Stale buttons

There isn't a provision in the NetworkTables support for a variable to be deleted. Once a client has picked up on a variable's existence, it will keep it around. The protocol will then replicate that variable to the server, and any other clients connected.

To remove a variable completely, all programs using it must be stopped. When they are restarted, only the currently created variables will appear.

So when we turn both the robot and the smart dashboard on (no matter which order) it should only recreate the ones that are in the robot?

I believe we found that the driver station itself also needs to be restarted, and then things are in synch.

Our habit when things change is to restart the smart dashboard and the driver station after any time when we change robot code that would modify or remove any items displayed on the smart dashboard.
