Team Fusion 364 - Final Test Run

Here is our final run before Bag and Tag.

Here's some facts about our robot:

-6 wheel 4 CIM Drivetrain, 2 speed
-Active Intake with a AM9015 motor on a PG71 gearbox, 3 inch stealth wheels
-PID Driven dual-pulley lift mechanism
-Dual hooks to pull trashcans off the step in autonomous
-Ability to flip trashcans upright and twist them to the correct orientation with a camera
-Ability to twist totes into the correct orientation
-Can top 4 stacks with a can, or make a 6 stack with 2 totes and a can
-Selectable alliance color underglow (I have them in our "Cop light" configuration in the video)

We can't wait to see the competition at the Bayou Regional. It's going to be tough!

The drivetrain on this robot is one that we have used for the past couple of years and we have seen much success with it. It is quick and easy to make, due to one of our fabricators. It also allows us more time to work on the actuators/main structure of the robot and get some practice time towards the end of build season. (We don't have the resources to build 2 robots.)

Really like the lightweight hook system in the back. Presumably they are made from polycarbonate. What thickness of material did you use, if I might ask?

I also like how deftly your motorized intake manipulates game pieces.

The tubes were ordered from McMasterCarr. They are impact-resistant polycarbonate tubes, comparable to Lexan. They have an ID of 3/4", OD of 7/8", thickness of 1/16".

The hooks on the end were printed with our Makerbot Replicator 2. PLA plastic.

There's a few more 3D printed parts on our bot. The whole string guide assembly to pull the hooks up is 3D printed.

Also, thanks Breakaway! Can't wait to see you guys there. Hopefully we can get some good practice matches in together like last year and sweep bayou 2 years in a row

How did you make the hinge/support mechanism? It looks like you have an L-bracket with the hinge on the end of the short leg and the polycarb tubes attached to the long leg. Are the tubes holding up?

How long does it take for the arms to hit the top of the RC? It looks like about 2-3 seconds from the video. Do the arms fall using their own weight?

Thanks. See you at Bayou.

You're right on the hinge. Its just a door hinge with a short piece of angle-iron with a longer piece welded at about a 60-70 degree angle to hold the tube.

The polycarb tubes hold up well. They're lexan, so about 500x stronger than glass. They can bend completely around.. We've even uprighted a can because the hook got stuck (then we broke our 3d printed claw because it slapped back to the robot so hard).

They do fall from momentum. We have a little rubber-band attached to our superstructure to give them a little extra boost. We secure the cans in 3 seconds.

The hinges are adjustable. We can move them from left to right in order to set up just right on the field.

Are the tubes strapped to the longer piece with cable ties or something like that?

They're held on by two hose clamps. There is also some thin safety cable that runs through the tubes. That cable is attached to the hook at the top and tied off down at the bottom. The hook is also secured a second time by a nut and bolt that goes all the way through.

Oh, and can't wait to see you guys at Bayou as well, glad you could make the trip out! After those awesome finals matches at Red Stick Rumble I've been looking forward to you guys ever since.
