[5136] How we finished our bot for bag & tag
It was a stressful night but we made it just underweight by swiss-cheesing the frame and cutting our electronics board in half. Anyone else have trouble with robot weight? What did you do? |

Yell at the programmers and tell them to cut out anything that isn't 100% necessary.

Re: [5136] How we finished our bot for bag & tag
We were at about 123 lbs on Monday night, but we managed to get it under by cutting a lot of holes.
We almost had to upgrade to a bigger compressor, which would have necessitated drastic weight loss measures, but we figured out a way to conserve air and make it work. |

5137 here...we just got very lucky we were right under by 6 lbs could have easily been over like you. Hard to weigh as you build. Always want more that's the nature of building. We aimed for max weight ours last year was a tank right at 120.

Re: [5136] How we finished our bot for bag & tag
After weighing the chassis and then the elevator and having it be over 10 pounds, we went on a serious diet. Cut down towers, dropped two drive motors, swapped out 1/4" for 1/8" where possible.
Estimated to lose 10 pounds, lost over 20. Our only excuse is that someone weighed the robot with a battery in it. |

No problem at all. We weighed in at 107.2 lb. We have a few bits we'll be swapping out, but we expect about 10 lb of our withholding allowance to be ballast, or possibly we'll be doing some marathon hacksawing in the pit!

Re: [5136] How we finished our bot for bag & tag
We haven't been overweight since our rookie year. It's a common mistake, the weight sneaks up on you if you don't pay attention to it from the beginning.
As usual since then, this year we didn't get enough functionality to have to worry about weight. Even with two completely separate mechanisms to handle totes and containers. |

1710 had a stress free bag and tag, weighing in at team record low of 82lbs.
