Windows 7 Activation Fix

FIRST just published a fix for the Windows 7 activation problem on the KOP Website

Windows 7 Activation

Windows 7 Activation Files

I used it earlier at another team build site and it seemed to work fine. You just need to be connected to the Internet.

Re: Windows 7 Activation Fix

Mark,

Could you explain what the Activation problem is and what symptoms we would see?

Re: Windows 7 Activation Fix

Everyone who has re-imaged their Classmate should apply this fix.

When most of us re-imaged our Classmates with Windows 7 (the KOP USB image stick), we did not have an activation code to register it with Microsoft as an Authorized copy of the OS.

FIRST gave us a temporary fix with the Classmate_Update.bat to make the activation notification go away for 30 days.
So if you used it you won't have any symptoms for 30 days, then you'll start getting the "Windows not genuine" message again, and the system would stop working, probably in the middle of a match.

Now they've apparently posted the real activation solution that should be permanent and we won't ever have to worry about this ever again.
Of course, we'll really know 30 days from now...

Re: Windows 7 Activation Fix

You can check to see if you've activated properly by going to:
Start->Computer
System Properties
Look at the very bottom and if you still need to activate it will give you the number of days till the temporary license expires.

You can also initiate activation here if it doesn't automatically pop-up the request.

Re: Windows 7 Activation Fix

The activation program consistently fails on our classmate. Can anyone just give me the sla number and I'll register it locally with Microsoft?

Thanks!

We got the same DNS error. The short answer is that we kept at the above fix (the KOP one) and it worked after a couple of tries. The long version is below:

It didn't work for us. We got the hex error code 0x8007267c and an error regarding DNS. The 0x8007267c got us to a Microsoft support page that didn't help, we just graduated to error code 0xc004f050. Eventually we called Microsoft Licensing support http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/e...n-centers.aspx. They told us that we needed to talk tech support, who wasn't there at that hour. It sounds like they could have resolved the problem had we called back when whoever was there.

Re: Windows 7 Activation Fix

Just a suggestion, when you press start button and go to the search bar and type "slmgr.vbs -rearm", does it give you another 30 days before activation is required again? Or does that not work?

We recently got permission to use the network at our team's work site. It's okay for simple web browsing, but the firewall's list of blocked sites and protocols is annoying. One of the things it interferes with is software activation, including CAD and LabVIEW and Windows itself. I've had to take both our Classmates home and use my own Internet connection to get them to activate.

Thank you so much! I was continuously receiving error messages when trying to activate. I typed that into the search bar, restarted, then had no problem when activating upon startup.
