Moving on in competition

So my team and I for the first time ever just came in first as our competition. Since this is still new to us we were wondering how we must proceed in the future, are we automatically admitted to the district competition or must we place high again in the next regional regional. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Moving on in competition

Since you are in PNW District system you have two events and earn points as you go if you end up tied at the end of two events then:

1st Order Sort: Total Playoff Round Performance Points
2nd Order Sort: Best Playoff Round Finish at a single event
3rd Order Sort: Total Alliance Selection Results Points
4th Order Sort: Highest Qualification Round Seed or Draft Order Acceptance (i.e. Highest Alliance Selection
points at a single event)
5th Order Sort: Total Qualification Round Performance Points
6th Order Sort: Highest Individual Match Score
7th Order Sort: Second Highest Individual Match Score
8th Order Sort: Third Highest Individual Match Score
9th Order Sort: Random Selection

So keep scoring in second event to make it to Final District even though you won the first one!

Re: Moving on in competition

Congrats on your district victory! By placing first at the event you have earned a fair amount of points that will definitely help you advance to the district championship in Spokane.

However, you do still need to attend and perform well at a second district event (I see you're scheduled for Auburn), and then if you have enough points after that you will be notified that you have qualified for the district championship.

Rankings for all teams involved with districts can be found here.

Re: Moving on in competition

This document should give you a good idea of what's coming. Essentially, you get district points based on how you ranked during qualification matches, how you did during elimination matches, and if you won any awards. You can calculate your score using the link above (the FIRST site is down this weekend, ugh), and after everyone's played at two districts, the top 64 teams in the PNW move on to District Champs in Spokane.

To answer your question specifically, you aren't guaranteed a spot in Spokane for seeding highest (at least I think that's what you said), but it bodes well. Good luck in the rest of the season!

Re: Moving on in competition

The only thing that automatically advances your team and robot to the District Championship is winning the Chairman's Award.

64 teams move on to the District Championship, 10 of them by winning Chairman's and the other 54 are based on the point earned at your first two district events in chronological order. Because some of the points are awarded based on ranking after qualification rounds and the alliance selection process it is entirely possible that a team or teams that did not win the event earned more points than your team.

Hopefully everything goes as planned and you will be able to see your current points and where you rank here: http://frc-districtrankings.usfirst.org/ by 9am Pacific Time on Mon.
