Whow. Its amazing how quickly and easily people get offended and try to defend themselves. I think you have to realize that this is the real world and there will always be people who don't like something of yours, and you have to deal with it.

I personally agree with Devil's Kid in that the animation didn't seem to have anything to do with "What F.I.R.S.T means to you", and that is wasn't as well crafted as some of the other ones. I kind of feel sorry for the other teams which i thought did a better job, but, oh well, life's a b**ch, and that's how its always going to be.

All i can say is team 1038, enjoy your win, and when the same thing happens to you, you'll know how the other teams felt.

But thats just my opinion. Have fun getting angry at what I said, and say I am mean, or whatever you want.

you all just need to chill out.

Constructive criticism is fine but you guys were just attacking them... so they felt the need to defend themselves.

The animation was nice, alot of animations in cleveland were not nice. Thus it won.

They won and there is nothing that anyone can do and no reason to keep argueing about this.

I personaly liked it and thought it was funny

I don't know if you even care, seeing how bitter your outlook on everything is, but something similar actually did happen to us. We felt we had an awesome robot, which I challenge anyone to prove wrong, but did we make it in the top 8? No. Did we get picked for the tournament? No. And, Fork, did we bash the robots that made it? No. Instead we cheered them on, and were happy for them. This has happened to me 2 years in a row now, and I believe it makes you a much better person if you can look past all that. Maybe you don't realize it, but FIRST is not about winning awards, it's about learning and advancing the human culture, which is not being helped in any way by constant bickering. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not trying to retaliate, I'm simply trying to give you another outlook and help you see the bigger picture here.

Lets please not start a flamewar, it's definately not needed.

Feel free to express your opinions, but don't just bash something because you don't like it. We had no control over the awards given out at the regionals. Like I said, it was a highly unexpected surprise.

enough. some people dont like our animation,
some people did (thanks for the support boilers!).

who cares if we won......honeslty. who cares about winning. this is my first year of robotics and my outlook is like: i come for the learning, i come for the fun, i come to meet new people and expericence new things

some of you may take winning seriously but if i was the leader of the aniation team, id be proud right now. and ifpeople disliked my animation that much..i'd most likely mail that team an award. i dont know but i have a feeling this will never end.

thanks for the support to everyone and thanks for the criticism. this will all help us for next years animation

You people just don't get it.

Oh, and btw, Crispyc, it seems you are kind of bitter about your robot not making it to the top eight, why else would u mention it then.

Considering that this was your first year and you had to learn MAX from scratch, I commend you.

The responses that you have gotten about your animation's quality are not appropriate even if they do have some truth to them. Compared to some animations I saw, yours was great. But compared to others I've seen, it wasn't.

The issue is not really "OMG THAT SUCKED! WHY DID THEY WIN?". Because it didn't suck. It just didn't meet the requirements. No where in the animation did you say what FIRST meant to you. Truthfully using the point scale I would give you 20 for creativity, 5 for content, and 5 for technical execution. But don't be upset about that. For your first year thats a valid attempt.

The reason people are really upset is not because of YOUR animation, but because of the judging system Autodesk used. One misunderstanding you seem to have is that you won out of fairness. That isn't the case. I doubt that there were any teams that won out of fairness. Don't get all high and mighty saying 'there must have been a reason we won'. Because there was no reason for ANYONE to win. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this years animation competition was a joke and a waste of the weeks we spent working on our animations.

The only people who will get a fair try will be not the teams who applied or won regionals, but the teams who signed up for nationals, where word is, there will be a real judging system.

Frankly I am horrified by the lack of caring and consideration shown toward the animations this year. And that is why some teams feel strongly against you winning.

Geez guys, lighten up. Dont be so jealous of them that they won. I saw nothing wrong with their animation. It wasnt the best I saw, but it was pretty good. If everyone voted for them to win, why do you think it is unfair? Unless im mistaken every team has only one vote, its not like all of 1038 voted for themselves.

I'm not bitter, I'm disappointed, which I have a right to be. But I got over it. End of story.

Personally im not jelous, I wasn't even in their regional or conference, the thing that really irritates me is that people get so offended when someone tells the truth (at least in their own view).

Everybody is afraid to voice their opinion because it might "hurt someone's feelings", so what do they do? They just formulate a standard response which was conditioned into them from childhood -- that even if you don't think something is very good, say it is nonetheless and everybody will be happy.

(*now this has nothing to do with the animations)
That's the problem with everthing today. Because of that people that truly do not know what they are doing and are stupid are still encouraged to keep doing it and voicing their opinions no matter how ridiculous they are (yes, i realize that some of you may be thiking this exact same thing about me).

Thats why all idiots in the world exist today: because everyone was to afraid to tell them to shut up when it was needed.

Call me cynical, call me bitter, call me whatever you want, it doesn't really matter. Think about it and you'll realize I'm right.

If you people are claiming that I am attacking this poor team about their animation, then why are you attacking me about my opinion? I have the right to state my opinion, and I will do so. What TheFork is saying on the above post is entirely true. Incouraging incompetant people is only doing worse for society.

why does it matter?
some people paste on a good face and say "hey! i loved it nice work *thumbs up*"
some people say what they actually think.

how about we just end this thread. everyone had the last word and its over. so the judging for animations were messed up and extrememly good animations got shafted. so some crappy animation won an award as people are saying. suck it up and deal. it's over and i see no reason as to why we all need to complain about it to other teams.

stop trying to bring down other peoples enthusiasm. i mean it may not be your intent but to me, personally, it's a huge turn off and makes me frown. it's over....dont pick your battles with team 1038 because we joined FIRST to have a good time, learn, and befriend people...not argue about somethign so trivial as this

Hmm..... so you think the philosophy of how the world works is trivial?
I'd like to hear your take on it then.
