Re: Alternative to VIAIR compressors?
To get an official ruling on if this compressor would be legal please ask on the official Q&A. If you have a Q&A response that says it would be legal then I would allow it.
With that said R68 specifies 1.05 cfm not ~1.05 cfm. By my math 30 liters per minute = 1.05944 cfm. If you round to 2 decimal places that would be 1.06cfm. As an LRI, if you wanted to use it at my event I would not allow it unless you had either and email or Q&A response from FIRST specifically allowing it. The Master Flow MF-1040 Cyclone are, however, very nice portable air compressors for your vehicle. I have one in my wife's vehicle that we bought at a Pep Boys after a tire kept slowly leaking a year ago on a road trip. It cam in handy last week on our way to the Orlando Regional when we picked up a nail on the road. |

Re: Alternative to VIAIR compressors?
From what I have seen, Q&A will not rule on a specific part. What pressure is the rated flow at? If 30 l/m at 150 psi then it would be substantially higher at 0 psi gage. Since the rule does not specify a pressure, the air compressor, the 0 psig flow rate is the one you have to go by.

Re: Alternative to VIAIR compressors?
If there is only one flow rate listed in the "specifications", then it is going to be the maximum flow rate, ie at the minimum pressure.
Viair sells other compressors that meet the 1.05 rule, and will provide higher flow than the little KOP compressor at higher pressures. They cost more than forty bucks. |
