Looking For Encoders From the Group Buy

We're looking for the same encoder that was part of this group buy from earlier in the year.

I believe the model is the S4-120-250-N-S-B. If you have any extras and are willing to part with them, send me a PM. (we'll also pay for brand new encoder cables with the encoder)

As a small amount of background, the ones we did buy were smashed and the ones we have are barely working. We qualify for champs and our last event is a week 6 one, so we'd like have them (if possible) for both of those.

Thanks!

US Digital rereleased them as the S4T. You can order them direct.

Re: Looking For Encoders From the Group Buy

You may be committed to the US digitals but I am really starting to like the CUI AMT102 and AMT103 encoders. You can pick your resolution and 256 is an option. Available at digi-key.

Re: Looking For Encoders From the Group Buy

I see US Digital has a new E4T as well. Good info.

The CUI encoders are great, but finding a good mounting solution for available COTS gearboxes is still a challenge this year. I'm considering the included brackets expendable -- I don't think we have managed to remove a single encoder without breaking at least one of the three clips. Who's up for designing a 3d-printable one that accommodates the mounting holes on AndyMark gearboxes?

Completely agree. If you never have a need to remove the mounting plate then these encoders would probably be great. We needed to change the mounting of a couple of them though and the little plastic clips popped off one after the other.

Digi-key has the mounting bases for the CUI AMT103V.

Yeah, it's important to know up front that you will need spares of these. I suppose with some delicate tool work you might be able to get one off without breaking it, but we weren't able to manage it during build season.

Has anyone tried gently warming it up to maybe ~150F before attempting to remove?

We broke all of our clips off after taking it off and putting it back on once. We eventually hot glued the encoder to the mounting base. If we want to adjust the resolution, we will have to swap out the one we have.

Re: Looking For Encoders From the Group Buy

Strongly recommend the TRD series of encoders from Automation Direct (also a KOP voucher sponsor).

We are open to other products, the only issue is that we're running these encoders at ~3600 RPM for our elevator. Can the CUI ones handle that speed?

There is no need to change, US Digital will sell you the encoder you want directly.

They also offer the next level QTY discount for FIRST teams.

We did not try this, might be worth a check. 150F is easily within it's operating temperature.
