ElkLogics MSDS Library

ElkLogics (FRC 2867) is trying to build a library of material safety data sheets (MSDS) for use by teams. Our goal is to have a library that is specific to materials commonly found in FIRST shops and pits. Please take a look at our site, and if you have materials you want to see on there, use the form to let us know. If you have one to share, you can even upload it and we will add it.

Feel free to leave feedback as well!

Re: ElkLogics MSDS Library

This is nice, as we've gotten flagged for safety concerns when we didn't have MSDS sheets for some plastics or grease in the past. If you're looking for stuff to add, I'd recommend lithium grease and fiberglass. If you wanted to be thorough, you can put an MSDS for paper, pens, and sharpies.

The MSDS for aluminum was very funny to read
Quote:
Storage: Keep container tightly closed. Keep container in a cool, well-ventilated area. Moisture sensitive.

Personal Protection: Safety glasses. Lab coat. Gloves
How many people do you see wearing gloves and lab coat, removing aluminum from sealed containers, stored in well ventilated area?

If the container is sealed, why does it need to be in a well ventilated area? Why do you need to have a piece of aluminum in a well ventilated area to begin with?

I think its referring to powdered aluminum which can be very reactive(its one of the main ingredients in thermite): Also, aluminum dust is probably not very fun to breathe in. As for the aluminum in our robots, those safety measures are vastly unnecessary.
