Go to Post From what I've seen in FIRST, teams that copy generally always learn something from it, and if they don't, the copy they produce is of much lower quality than the original. - TheOtherGuy [more]

Galileo and Einstein etc. question

Number of posters reference Galileo and Einstein etc. and I am sitting here and have no idea what it was.
Did some digging found this http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprogr...pionship-event

Einstein Field, Archimedes Division, Curie Division, Galileo Division, Newton Division.

What is this exactly?

iRobot_ is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Galileo and Einstein etc. question

They are the divisions at St. Louis. Last year there were 100 teams in each division. This year there are 8 divisions, each with 75 teams. Winners of the 8 divisions then go on to play on Einstein, where they compete for the world championship title.

Re: Galileo and Einstein etc. question

The teams at the Championship are split into a number of divisions (4 before this year, 8 this year). Each runs similarly to a regional. The winner of each division goes to the final field, Einstein, where the teams play a separate set of eliminations ("playoffs" this year) for the title of world champions.

These are various divisions at the Championship event (except for Einstein, which I'll get to in a moment)

This year, there are 8 subdivisions, and 4 divisions. The distinction comes in the awarding of judged awards (Engineering Inspiration, Rookie All-Star, etc). There is one winner per division, which consists of two subdivisions.

In all other respects, subdivisions are like divisions in years past. They operate like a regional, in that there are qualification and playoff matches that are done independently. There are 75 teams per subdivision this year.

Einstein is where the winners of those subdivisions play, to determine the world champion. Typically, this has been a pristine field that has not been played on before. With 8 subdivisions this year, that is not possible. Therefore, the Archimedes and Tesla fields are going to be converted into Einstein fields this year.

Hope that helps!
