The method used to determine which teams have clinched eligibility is an iterative process that tests whether the points earned by a team that has completed its season may be exceeded by teams that will earn points in the week 6 event. In descending order, each team’s present ranking is decremented by the number of teams who might earn higher point totals to create a worst-case final ranking. Teams whose worst-case final ranking remains within the 55-team eligibility limit (taking into account the automatic eligibility extended to DCA-winning teams) are determined to have clinched their eligibility. The result is an absolute determination, not a prediction.

More teams added off of the waitlist today. From MAR, looks like 204 and 4575 are now registered for CMP.

Here's a question: If 4575 qualifies for World Championships at the Queen City Regional this weekend, would that take away a MAR points slot for STL? Or not since they have already gotten into STL via the waitlist?

Here's the relevant portion of the manual.

From my reading of it, the waitlist spot doesn't matter. If 4575 earns a spot at a Regional then MAR looses a point slot. This makes a little bit of (twisted) sense, as if worked otherwise then 4575's waitlist spot would essentially be transferred to another team.

If this is true, MAR is now down to 13 point slots for World Champs (due to 2016 winning EI at South Florida, 2590 winning Montreal, 1923 winning EI at Tech Valley, and 4575 winning Queen City).

By my numbers, it looks like the cutoff for MAR Champs, before any declines, will be 57 points.

That is correct. The official rankings and qualifications are posted.

Does anyone know of any teams planning to decline their invite? As of now, there are 8 teams registered for CMP that have qualified. The next team off the list would be 5684.

Edit: Make that 9 teams, 3314 is now registered for champs off of the waitlist.

We were invited off the waitlist but declined - we figured if we won our way in then we'd go but if we didn't earn the points to go from Lehigh, it didn't make sense to spend the money.

Odd though, we declined that waitlist invite several weeks ago.
