Graduation Gift for Seniors?

As the end of the school year draws near, many teams are faced with the bittersweet departure of their seniors. The team I work with (4990) is looking to thank our seniors by presenting them with etched Leatherman multitools.

However, since budget is tight, we're looking to place a bulk order to Leatherman and get each item at a discounted price. We don't know the price or exact number of units, but the price is likely to fall as the quantity rises.

The gifting of multitools is a tradition that other FRC teams have done from time to time (I believe 1868 does this), so we were wondering if any other teams would like to honor their seniors in this way.

If you're interested in ordering with us, leave a post below. More people in a bulk order means more items at lower prices; more affordable for everyone!

Re: Graduation Gift for Seniors?

We give engraved multi-tools to some of our students at the end of each season. Not sure how many we would be getting, but I imagine that we would be willing to go in on a bulk order. I think we ordered 4 last year.

We let students find gifts and we vote on them. Robot parts or game pieces are popular choices.

Re: Graduation Gift for Seniors?

One of our mentors makes "Yak head" plaques for each senior, with their name and the years they were on our team woodburned into it.

I am a potter, so I make YAK mugs (well, I guess they are beer steins) for each senior, too. I know that the kids do get a lot of use out of these (for hot chocolate, of course) in college.

Re: Graduation Gift for Seniors?

Our team uses the previous year's game pieces, signed by all the other members of the team. A bit easier for VRC teams, but some smaller FRC pieces should work just fine.

Re: Graduation Gift for Seniors?

The couple of years I did this we made wooden plaques with something special mounted on it. Like stripped bur still intermeshed gears, paintbrushes with blue and gold tips. I think the best was Siri, it was a 60 device utility knife. it was the only gift that came apart. Let her tell if she liked it.

We experimented briefly with bumper-pillows. Not too relevant in a no bumper year, though.

Re: Graduation Gift for Seniors?

For a couple of years we would give our seniors t-shirts from the college they were attending along with gag gifts. Another time we gave them mugs with the Exploding Bacon logo etched in them by Two Pencil Designs Alex gave us a great deal

Re: Graduation Gift for Seniors?

We've been giving alumni t-shirts out to all of our graduating seniors for a few years now. They're nice because the gift is an honor for the underclassmen to look forward to and the alumni wear it when they return to visit and take part in team events.

That's a great idea, I assume these are "special" t-shirts that are different than the regular team t-shirts?

I picture a shirt with the team number and logo, probably a different color than the regular team shirts, and the word "ALUMNI" on it somewhere, and maybe their name on the sleeve with the graduation year?

Something generic that you could have batch printed up, and then have the name/year embroidered on the sleeve as the seniors graduate. That way you can order a good amount ahead of time to save money.

Brilliant!

Re: Graduation Gift for Seniors?

A couple of years ago we gave bath towels embroidered with the team logo, their initials and an FRC patch so they wouldn't forget us when they went off to college.
