Yay!
No Surrogate Matches.
There are never surrogate matches as long as we have 12 qualifying matches per team*, so basically no surrogate matches in District events ever!

* if #teams x #rounds is a multiple of 6, there are no surrogates. Therefore if #rounds is 6, 12, or 18(!) you guarantee no surrogates whatever the number of teams

Not just 120 Qualification matches, but 16 or 17 Playoff matches as well.

Team 3464 was also invited and accepted (I think someone cancelled) so I'm pretty sure the 60-team accurate list is now here: http://www3.usfirst.org/whats-going-...rogramCode=FRC

If everything works out, yes. I'm with 319 this weekend though, so no promises.

I'm a fan of the double view, but is there any way we can get some sort of indication for at least the match number on the field only view?

Re: NEFIRST Championship

I might be getting spoiled by the high stream quality in the last few years, but is the quality of this event lower than usual? As I recall, all the NE district events had a higher quality than this.

NE CMP is using a different production company then most of the district events used this and last year, so there is certainly differences due to that.

Re: NEFIRST Championship

Hey roboteers! I have been game announcing and having a great time seeing the robots really step up and have some awesome matches.

You may have seen me roaming around while not announcing with a hand held recorder bugging volunteers and mentors. I have been coming to events since 1993 and still enjoy it so much.

This series is labelled 1000 to 1. I was given the figure that for every paid staff member of FIRST, 1000 volunteers make it happen. I have been interviewing roboteers, mentors, builders, and volunteers. Please have a listen if you have some time to get to know the folks who bring you the event. I hope to help show what the adults get out of first. I will likely keep posting these here, or may move them to a general thread. Thanks for taking the time.

Re: NEFIRST Championship

Wow, what a crazy day.
Toward the end of quals, we started to fall apart. We seemingly lost our ability to harvest well and align totes in the robot, leading to catastrophic stacking.
But with the help of 195 and 1519, we managed to pull ourselves together over lunch. They helped us fix both our harvesting and RC grabber which got severely damaged in our last qualification match. Because of that, we worked great in the elims.
A huge thanks to 195 and 1519 for picking and helping us.

I'm happy that we finally get to work with 195. We've been quite familiar with competing against the Cyber Knights and meeting an inevitable doom, being beaten in the elims in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and earlier in 2015.
I'm happy that we finally got to be on the same side of the glass and had the pleasure of working with you.

Re: NEFIRST Championship

Just wanted to thank everyone at the event for making it so fantastic! We had a blast. A special thanks goes out to our amazing alliance partners, 1768 and 2170, who we were incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to work with, for giving us the push we needed to make it to Saint Louis for the first time since 2010! My eyes hurt a little bit from all the happy tears, but in my opinion it's well worth it. Hope there will be pictures soon!

Re: NEFIRST Championship

Congratulations to Mechanical Cyber Pi (1519, 195, 2067). Second Place to the Buzzy Tick Hawks. (175, 236, 1100)
It would have been much closer without mechanical and tote alignment issues.
Don't underestimate Mechanical Mayhem. While they don't make high stacks, they clear the landfill and cap their work.

3rd goes to the Titanium Uber Chiefs (2170, 1124, 1768) 4th to the Magic Power Windup. (237, 501, 3467)

Surprised that can grabbers didn't make the difference. It was the Achilles Heel of the winning alliance.

Oh, there were good Can Grabbers. RoboSquad 558, Entropy 138, and TJ 88 come to mind. Buzz 175's adaptation to this component of the game is impressive.

I am still looking for the list of who qualified for the CMP. More importantly, which teams will be able to scramble to come up with funds and reservations. We'll find out next week.

With more divisions and fewer teams in each, I think New England stands a good chance of having more than two teams advancing to the Einstein playoffs.

RoboSquad 558, Shrewsbury Colonials 467, CyberKnights 195, & LigerBots 2877 will represent New England well for the Chairman's award in St. Louis in less than 2 weeks. The competition for this award is quite stiff at the CMP, but seeing how you have documented your team's effect on your students and communities makes me say that "it's not about the Robot" is alive and well in New England.
LigerBots had my favorite video. I student taught at Newton South in 1992.

Okay, some videos in honor of Ty Tremblay, (Volunteer of the Year from Big Bad Bob 319), for his convoluted efforts in which he stayed the course to salvage Bits & Bytes from the encoded landfill of fragmented discs and nefarious activities:

Each of these focussed mainly on one teams activities:
Titanium Tomahawks
What is notable here is their intelligent endgame where they capped a 3-stack and cleaned up the field rather than attempting another stack themselves.

Windham Windup, always impressive. Note how the driver team tries to seat the mis-oriented tote after they loaded their 2nd Stack. Check out how their Mecanums chew up the noodle at the end.

Southington Sets up for Match 64 What Robot set up is like on a dance floor.
I love how WPI events have such a great theatrical production. However, I wondered whether it was good or bad for the teams trying to check connections, alignment, set screws, etc....?
Hat's off to the production company, this was their first FIRST event, and they acquitted themselves quite well.

CyberKnights Match 65 The inevitable conclusion. Watch and Learn.
This is how a Human Player does it. Check out how they grab and position the totes. Note the perfect timing of lifting and loading and the clearance between the previous tote and the one being loaded.
Also note how the Robot can pick up a Recycling container in any orientation and reorient it with their chute loader.

High Score at the NEDCMP

A little heavy on 195, I know, but they're my baby.
They are 17 years old now and I take or admit no credit or responsibility for the impressive adult team they have become since that day I was introduced to FIRST at 720 Pleasant Street in 1997.
I just threw some seeds on the path.
