Bring a notebook with a Dazzle USB Video Capture Device... that way you will get great quality and portablitiy (you wont be luggin VHS tapes around). I think it will be also much cheaper.
If you want nice cables go with this company "monster" they make really nice cables. Thats my 2 cents
