I'm not exactly sure (mists of time and all that), but the last time 857's crate saw competition was CMP in 2009! Five years of not crating robots anywhere.

Looks like they did a nice job and listened.
Plus, 2444 had an alumni playing for the Cardinals last weekend.
Kolten Wong. One of their students bought his jersey.
Great story.

Our current crate was made in 2010 (by me) replacing our previous crate design (which I liked better) but was looking really ragged after years of transportation back and forth.

I love 3504 's tardis crate, 4039's rainbow crate, 1692's tiger crate (wow that is vibrant!), 25's flying turtle crate, and I think it's super cute that 4645 put pictures of their team members on theirs <3

Re: Robot Crates at the CMP

So why wait for FIRST to start a new award? CD community can vote and give out an award "CD Popular Award" for championship crate. If any of you work for U-Line or any other company dealing with packing/shipping (no, not FedEx, they are already supporting), get their sponsorship for duct tapes and zip ties and send to the winning team.

We still crate every year (being across the ocean and all), so I think our crate might have hit that milestone. I don't know for sure because we do try to stick to the East Coast which is not quite as far, and it's also possible we haven't had the same crate the whole time. If we haven't gotten there, though, I would imagine we would be close.

EDIT: I've added it up, and if we have used the same crate since our rookie year (2006) then it will have travelled close to 70,000 miles by the time it returns to us this year. So not quite there yet (although it has gone over 100,000 kilometres!). I also didn't take into consideration the fact that it normally goes to somewhere like Memphis first and then gets driven to its final destination. Maybe we have hit it.

Re: Robot Crates at the CMP

Since we are a international team we need to ship our entire robot and pit in one crate.

The first two years we’ve had a home made crate which we donated to Impossible Robotics this year.

For ourselves we had a bigger plan in mind. 6 Months ago we got in touch with Faes Cases.

They are professionals in making custom flightcases and together with their engineers and our students we’ve designed a multifunctional flightcase which will be extremely useful during not only competitions but also business fairs and other demo’s throughout the years.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Faes Cases BV. for this wonderful collaboration!

233 Crated to QCR and their crate was pretty cool. Obviously all pink and it had the names of different events they have traveled to.
