Out of curiosity, why CIMS? There are motors with higher RPM out there and you don't really need the torque...

EDIT: Did some research and remembered that you guys make your own gearboxes (I think) so that makes more sense now

When you're using as much surgical tubing as possible, you need a lot of power to pull that thing back.

EDIT: DPTO

That, and even ignoring the tubing, angular acceleration = torque / inertia. If you can add torque without adding inertia it will speed it up. The more important number than RPM or torque is power though, which CIMs have a whole lot of.

Also we use the 4 CIMs to drive the robot around after autonomous.

Yes, I can attest to this. 329 was a steal of a pick, to think it's even quicker now is astonishing!

Good luck in Carver!

Re: can grabbers fastest?

Not sure if this would be feasible, but in 2011 a team set up a minibot speed test. You would bring your minibot to their pit and activate in on high speed footage. They had a ranked list of teams with the fastest minibots shown. This year I would be pretty cool if one team somehow watched the practice fields and listed off times.

Although that would be neat I don't think any of the fastest teams would be interested in doing it until they either get knocked out, or the event ends. Most teams that are racing don't want the teams they are racing to know how fast they are.

I'll be recording as many teams as I can though so I may be able to post some times after CMP.

Re: can grabbers fastest?

Here are two from 3824

One is 3D printed with a stand-alone pneumatic system for an alliance partner
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=l5J21aIJA-I

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YynT5unWQAU

The other is very light, 0.04 lbs. Carbon fiber wire.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4AUfgudxsFo

The printed one took 30 minutes to print both arms and the base. We've got both glass fiber (more pliable) and carbon fiber (stiff)
