How many recycling containers are going to die this week?

With all of the can grabbers that are being developed for champs and some of the power levels being tossed around in attempts to shave milliseconds, I think there are going to be many recycling containers destroyed at champs.

So, how many do you think will be destroyed over the 3 days?

I'll start it at 65

Re: How many recycling containers are going to die this week?

I haven't seen one destroyed this year.
I've heard of one being taken away and never heard of again at GTCR when a cleaner mistook it for one of their cans (their's were blue).

I mean... no joke but we thought about throwing them... we thought it would have been appropriate for us given our robot from last year:

And yes, the code does exist to throw them... though it has been safely hidden away.

Re: How many recycling containers are going to die this week?

Citrus Circuits has already proven they can bust an RC lid. So, with that in mind, 600 teams, 8 divisions..... I'm guessing we will see 24 RC's sent to an early retirement.

I thinking with newly minted and untested canburgulars on many machines, the potential for can (and robot) carnage is definitely elevated.

Re: How many recycling containers are going to die this week?

Poor cans are pretty beat up already. I'm guessing in the 10s max.

Noodles, about 30 per division (I saw about 20 dead noodles/regional max). Especially mechanum-heavy divisions.

Re: How many recycling containers are going to die this week?

5 or less. You might pop the top off but that's just 2 zip ties to replace. I have not heard of an actual failure of the cans at all.

Re: How many recycling containers are going to die this week?

I wouldn't imagine the cans taking much damage. Some canburglar mechanisms might render a few unusable, though only maybe 3 or 4. Noodles, on the other hand...there might be a few packs of those lost.

Re: How many recycling containers are going to die this week?

Less than 5. Ive seen 1000 matches live this year and even the most lengthy battles only end in penalties.

Seen a few popped tops though.

Re: How many recycling containers are going to die this week?

If anyone is going to destroy a can, I'd put my money on 340. They grip the can so tight it is sometimes still indented when they let go. It also hurt them once at FLR.

Re: How many recycling containers are going to die this week?

Looking at the mechanisms for rapid tote-grabbing, I'd guess that there will be no fatally damaged cans all weekend. I also guess five fatally damaged lids before Einstein, and another five on Einstein.

There will be many more lids separated from the cans which can be restored to service with new tie wraps and perhaps a half second with a drill.

I also expect at least one "spectacular G18" where a robot is dragged mostly or completely across the step. This seems most likely to happen when two grabbers engage with each other rather than being transitive through an RC.
