Re: Karthik & 1114: Effective FIRST Strategies 2015 - Championship Conference
Karthik,
Thank you for putting on such an awesome presentation! Every time I hear it, I always take away so many different things. Thanks for the laughs, and for everything you do for the FIRST community! |

Karthik - Another great presentation! I was disappointed when I wasn't able to make it "in time"' last year and I was really excited to hear that you were able to present in the theatre this year. (Its too bad there was volunteer security in the room and we couldn't have heard more) I want to say that as a new leader of Truck Town Thunder, (2010), I have taken a lot of what you have said in this presentation and applied it to our team. We can attribute "rebirth" of our team and the successes we have had to many of the FIRST community and their Gracious Professionalism. FIRST has been a tremendous experience for me as a mentor and I have seen how applying the strategies used in your presentation to our team has really helped us. Don't get me wrong, we have had numerous teams help and inspire us but since I am able to give them a direct thank you, due to proximity, I haven't been able to have many conversations with you in order to tell you thank you. Both this presentation and your Chairman's presentation have been a tremendous help to our team this year. I feel proud to be part of such a great community. I want to take the time to encourage all teams to go to Karthik's presentation, watch it, study it and always strive for perfection! Excellence is an honor and I feel blessed to be able to achieve excellence as my term as team leader of what I consider to be one of the best teams in FIRST, Truck Town Thunder! Karthik, from the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank you for inspiring me to be the leader I am today. Thank you for reminding me why I do this! Thank you for reminding me of what is important! Thank you for introducing me to Vince Lombardi! Thank you for being a mentor! Go Truck! #bleedorangeandblue |

Re: Karthik & 1114: Effective FIRST Strategies 2015 - Championship Conference
Was there a recording made of this presentation? I know the majority of the content is probably similar to the several other iterations of this presentation already published, but I (and probably many others) would like to hear the case study on Recycle Rush.

Re: Karthik & 1114: Effective FIRST Strategies 2015 - Championship Conference
Although I very much wanted to attend the seminar, we had only a skeleton crew of students out of school the first day and with robot and scouting work in progress were not able to split off a group to attend.
I saw mention earlier in the thread of a video recording, but have not seen any posting of where that might be. I've got the links to the earlier versions of the seminar still on my to do list. Thank you for the work that must go into preparing and delivering this, on top of everything else. |

Re: Karthik & 1114: Effective FIRST Strategies 2015 - Championship Conference
I didn't get to go, but many people from the rest of my team did.
As for unique things I haven't heard in his talks before, others told me Karthik hinted at 150ms being the time to beat for canburglars and that while there is an obvious chokehold strategy, it only applies to SF's / Finals. The biggest takeaway my team got from the overall presentation was the difference in time commitment between a normal team and a dominant team and how it relates to the strategy a team decides to go after (i.e. Karthik's Golden Rules). Karthik made a snip about pretty robots, which he always does. A few of my mentors thought it was specifically us, but - ahem - there are plenty of teams it could apply to. While those types of comments are a tough pill to swallow, they are the reality in some cases. In this particular case it was a driving force of change. It finally got my entire team all on the same page as me and one of my drivers with respect to our Champs strategy. It was definitely easier to make the robot changes and have a very good streak of matches on Friday with the whole team's backing. Thank you again to Karthik and his crew for putting on this seminar. I can't wait for the upload! |

Re: Karthik & 1114: Effective FIRST Strategies 2015 - Championship Conference
I didn't get to St Louis in time to enjoy this presentation. But 1296 will take the time to study the videos - thanks so much for putting this together!

Re: Karthik & 1114: Effective FIRST Strategies 2015 - Championship Conference
I know it sounds preposterous, but some of us still aren't over the fatigue from last week
. 15-16 hour days on your feet will do that. Be patient, I'm sure it's coming soon. |
