girls: what's the lamest pickup line u've got from a guy at robotics comp?

I was scouting at regionals this year and I was talking to a team's drive captain about what their robot. I asked for anything special about their robot and he replied "well their drive captain is extremely hot" and wouldn't leave it alone until I wrote it on the scouting sheet. To give him props though he's the only one I met there that I still talk to on a regular basis.

This is to the guys:

Do you really think that leaving a mysterious button/flyer/piece of paper/flying disk/piece of metal/duct tape bow tie (that WE made) in our pit with your number on it will actually make us want to text you? Very VERY rarely. Just come talk to us. Most robotics girls are very nice. We don't byte. (LOL I MADE A PUN) Come to the pit when we aren't in full chaos mode and ask us questions about our robot. Tell us its pretty. We like hearing that its pretty. THATS IT. Done. Check in later in the competition, if we are doing well be happy, if we are doing poorly be sad. This isn't rocket science.

You can figure it out from there, just know that 99% of the anonymous numbers get put into the trash. So don't do it.

I don't really have a story from this season, but I did ask to take a picture of a team's robot for scouting this weekend at SVR, and their female mentor shouted, "EVERYBODY CALM DOWN, IT'S JUST A FEMALE" and their entire pit crew was mortified. (They were actually ignoring me, so at least that got their attention). I was looking through a couple of past pages of the thread, and it was really cool to see how much I've grown from having a friendcrush on Mr. Mustache from 118. Or how much I've not grown considering I still have a friendcrush on almost everyone in FIRST. (Ya'll are all so inspiring, I just can't help it)

A couple of my students got asked out for a blind date in Duluth this year - A team was setting up blind dates in order to "increase the coopertition" at the event!

At one regional I had a guy come up to me and start talking to me casually, and then he was just like "I know I just met you, but would you mind if I asked for your number?" but we had hardly talked and he was acting really weird so i said "uhm I dont really know you, we've hardly even talked" (we had been talking for like 5 minutes) then he was just like "I know, this is crazy" and basically at that point i was just like no, leave. (I just met you... this is crazy..)
this probably works better under "worst pickup lines"

My freshman year (2009) my friend and i were walking through the pits collecting buttons when this one guy shouted out to us that his robot was invisible. (it was actually just queued) We walked over to humor the guy and joke about how it was a good strategy to make it invisible, and he stopped mid-sentence to tell me i have beautiful eyes. I was wearing safety glasses. He kept trying to follow us around the pits for the rest of the competition.

Because we are the Flaming Monkeys, the girls on our team wear skirts with flames on them at competition. At Midwest this year a guy came up to me, put his hand on my shoulder and said "Your skirt is just like my mixtape, on fire" while looking me straight in the eyes. Then he ran off.

I honestly don't see who has time to try and "pick up" girls at robotics. I'm so busy and hyper at events that if I see someone I'm attracted to or if I'm getting along with well in conversation, I'll think "hey, maybe I should get her Facebook / number / whatever" several hours after the fact... Robotics is really the only place where I'm distracted from girls.

On the rare occasion I can't stop thinking about someone cool I just met at a comp, I just go talk to them again really, like a normal person. Don't let this dissuade you from using terrible pickup lines; after all this is one of my favorite CD threads

This post from 2009 sums it up -- this is exactly how I feel as the drive coach and programmer. How do you all get time to use these cheesy pickup lines?
