Put together some stats because I'm done with finals and don't know what to do with myself. Only 21 teams have even been on Einstein 3 times. Of those, only 4 have made it to Einstein 3 times in a row (you guys got all of them). The only active streaks are 1678's (3) and 1114's (2).

Spoiler for not cluttering up the thread:

My mistake TBA hasn't updated their team pages for four team alliances but when I clicked on the Galileo event page it showed up under alliance selections. Thought it was weird they didn't make eliminations.

Updated my post.

Since we are throwing out cool and interesting stats: Starting with the 2003 season, we are 11/13 for atleast making the Division Finals. The only times we've missed playing for a chance on Einstein is 2006 (did not make Elims) and 2011 (Semi-finalists).

So, we're at least giving ourselves a chance to compete for a spot out there basically every year.

Not tooting our own horn, just putting it out there for fun.

Adam,

Very fun stats, and a testament to your team's success.

I actually remember being inspired by 67's dominating 2009 season. I mentioned it at the end of this post.

Crazy to think that, six years later, we accomplished a goal set before us by one of the greatest teams in FIRST.

Thanks for the inspiration Adam.

And thank you everyone for your more than generous words. Our entire team is humbled and honored to be among such an incredible community.

-Mike

Re: A Shared Victory on Einstein

I'll add my congratulations to the list. 118, 1678, 1671, and 5012, you guys made one of the most well-rounded alliances that I've ever seen. I haven't had the pleasure of working with many of the members of this alliance yet during my time in FRC, but I can say a couple things about Team 118.

In my opinions, the Robonauts are one of the most outstanding teams in FIRST. Every year, their videos dazzle and their robots live up to the hype. Even more importantly, though, they are some of the most down-to-earth, nicest people I've ever had the chance to speak with in FIRST. Multiple times, I've walked up to their pit just to ask questions about their robot, and they always have someone willing to explain all the effort and engineering that went into their devices. I particularly remember an encounter at IRI in 2012. It was Thursday and we had some time to kill after getting everything checked and running on our own robot, so a few of us wandered down the row to 118's pit. We got chatting about their custom molded wheels and their WCD setup, and we hung around for a while just being enamored with their machine. They never made us feel uncomfortable for staying so long, even when they justifiably could have, and they always were happy to answer our endless stream of questions. I think this is a testament to the kind of people the Robonauts grow on their team.

I had originally wanted to go look because their robot was conceptually so similar to ours. I was, and still am, simply in awe of the quality and style of their robots. That year, their robot mirrored ours in idea and function almost exactly, but everything was designed and built with stunning quality and attention to detail, and they seemed to have found the perfect way to accomplish a task in places where our robot was slightly suboptimal or improvised.

We had a qualification match with them the next day. Working with them on the practice field to get our triple balance down and being behind the glass with them was a joy. Their team stuck in my mind as particularly classy, respectful, and smart.

I was somewhat shocked when I heard the announcers on Einstein say that the Robonauts had not yet won a world championship. This one was far overdue. Congratulations!

Re: A Shared Victory on Einstein

I’m going to miss some people, just too many teams to name.

1678 Mike Corsetto and company are some of the nicest people in FIRST. Pair that with being talented, passionate, and hardworking and their success is no surprise. I will admit myself (and others) had doubts about their rumored can grabbers for champs, but they clearly performed. So happy for you guys, and am glad that your work has paid off. Some teams suffer from championship hangovers, I don’t think 1678 will. I expect them to come out firing on all cylinders next year.

118 Awesome team, awesome people. It’s all been said before. Can’t believe it’s their first champs, very happy for them.

1671 hasn’t received much attention at the international level, but has been building solid machines for years. Amazing they were left this far in draft, but they’re clearly happy with the result. Congrats guys.

5012 You have to applaud 5012 for their self-awareness and pragmatism when approaching this game. After being the 3rd for 987/148 at Vegas, they embraced the cheesecake metagame and rode it to a world championship. Although they never made it to the field, their role was a rather innovative (and last minute) counter to the 1114’ harpoons that was just plain awesome. A shame that we didn’t get to see a 5012 vs. 900 can war.

987/2826. Always fun to see 987 do well, and awesome to see 2826 get their division win with such an awesome machine. Funny that they couldn’t #avoid118hypetrain in that 118 bested them.

67/4488/225 After we knocked ourselves out, I figured this alliance would be the favorite for our division. All three were great teams this season, and I was really bummed to hear (I was watching other fields) that their run ended in finals.

971/1717 Two of my favorite CA teams pair up from the #1 seed. When I heard this Friday night I was stoked for them. Unfortunately it didn’t work out for them with a semifinal exit, but we were cheering for them the entire time.

1323 Love these guys. They’re always “Just trying to help”. Bummer their run was ended in finals and missed a division win, but for a team that only had a SINGLE returning student they put on a heck of a performance this season.

3310 the MAN is back. 3310 had a self-admitted unconventional design this year (which was just plain awesome) and it somewhat hurt their performance. However, I loved everything about it. I’m excited to see what Paul Copioli brings to the team in future seasons.

330 I heard a lot of quiet criticism of 330 this year, and it was VERY satisfying to see them pull off a division win. 330 is one of my favorite teams to work with, and I hope to play with them again next year.

Champs was a roller coaster for us. To go out so quickly with such high expectations put on us from both ourselves, and externally, was rough. We had a very talented and motivated senior class, and I’m very sorry for them that their run was ended sooner that it should have.

999 and 4499. Generally I spend much more time with partners in elims. I apologize that I barely got to interact with you, and by the time I calmed down after being eliminated to find you guys I was only able to find a handful. You guys were both great picks, great teams, and great performers in quals. You also clearly handled the chaos that is 254/973 being pretty unorganized while installing upgrades with you. I’m sorry that I lined up 999 and caused them to tip, and I’m sorry that 4499 never got a chance to play in elims. I expect both teams to perform well in the future, and will keep an eye out for them.

Re: A Shared Victory on Einstein

I am overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity from the FIRST community. The words of support and encouragement from so many teams (including several who I have looked to for inspiration over the years) are very humbling.

It is such an honor to be placed in this regard and I can assure you that team 1678 will continue to work hard to pass along that inspiration to as many teams as we are capable of reaching in the future.

Thank You all for being part of this amazing family we call FIRST. Thank you for sharing your kind and generous support of our team. And, once again, thank you Doug and team 701 for inspiring us to begin this journey.
