Now for the unscientific part: we direct drove a wheel on and found a significant reduction in RPM noticeable to the naked eye. The sound motor sounded significantly slower as well.

That's arguably more scientific than measuring resistance.

2) What do you mean by "no load" ?? Were the CIM output shafts completely unattached to anything? Or were they still mounted in a gearbox?

What I find most ambiguous about this is... how were there 6 dead motors in your drivetrain?

Long ago I ceased being amazed when motors, presumed dead, are later found very much alive -- following replacement of wiring, electrical hardware, or code.

CIMs can be killed and I have seen it; however, I have never seen six killed at the same time.
