The Dreaded FRCSim

Has anybody had success in installing FRCSim on Ubuntu 15.04? My laptop keeps failing at downloading some files off their server
Code:
W: Failed to fetch http://first.wpi.edu/FRC/roborio/release/linux/dists/vivid/main/binary-amd64/Packages 404 Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://first.wpi.edu/FRC/roborio/release/linux/dists/vivid/main/binary-i386/Packages 404 Not Found
Should I just run 14.04 in a VM or is there a work around?

Any help Appreciated.

Re: The Dreaded FRCSim

The instructions here (http://wpilib.screenstepslive.com/s/...talling-ubuntu) specify Ubuntu 14.04. Others have had problems when using the wrong version of Ubuntu.

One of the other mentors on our team was unable to get it to work in a VM. It seemed to be some issue with the video drivers. You may get lucky but I'm afraid you may want to temper your expectations.

Re: The Dreaded FRCSim

What you may want to try instead of a VM is installing Ubuntu 14.04 onto a flash drive, and then use the GRUB bootloader you installed for 15.04 to boot from that. It allows you to use your native hardware/video drivers but not mess up your existing installation. I recommend using a flash drive that's 16 gb or larger, but 8gb should work too.

Re: The Dreaded FRCSim

If you want to try to get it to work on 15.04, you can get it to download (and get rid of the 404) if you change the repository version from "vivid" to "trusty", in the Ubuntu software sources settings.

Re: The Dreaded FRCSim

It is possible.
I got FRCSim working on 14.04 in a Parallels 10 VM a few weeks ago.

This post had some helpful hints:

I should add that I believe this was using VirtualBox.
