A couple of points here:
1) This is a hobby scope. It will not be used for scientific research.
2) I definitely did do research on this scope before deciding on it. This included eevblog forums. (BTW, the thread you linked only supports my decision.)
3) No matter what I settled on, someone will always have an alternate opinion.
