In my opinion, due to the rule changes.... can grabbing will be limited in value at chezy champs.

Yup in regards to speed.

We're running substantially slower can grabbers than at champs.

I do think in elims you'll see an alliance or two that can score more than 6 cans routinely.

I would assume any number of the issues that have plagued FIRST webcasts for years: overzealous copyright claims on music, uncontrollable ads interrupting broadcasts, general quality/stability issues, terrible resolution, no automatic archive, and so on.

I'm suprised that the STEMtv announcement isn't generating more attention. Having a purpose-built solution and site for robotics events is a huge deal, which should dramatically improve the accessability of these events.

Pretty much this. Also, since we'll be a small (smaller than Twitch or YouTube) operation, we'll be able to provide a much more tailored experience.

From my limited knowledge of it, Twitch can get around almost all of those issues. Copyright music claims are the only issue, but the way they handle it is just muting the archive at that point.

The broadcaster can't control the ad that plays when a user loads a stream on Twitch. As a result, you get high school and middle school kids watching a Call of Duty ad where someone gets tortured. This is the issue I ran into last year when I was running NE FIRST's webcasts.

If you don't have enough viewers, Twitch will also disable transcoding, forcing users to watch the stream at its source resolution regardless of their internet speed.

Additionally, FRC is technically not a video game and Twitch has removed FRC streams (and accounts) in the past for that reason.

Twitch appears to have opened that gateway a little bit- at least that I'm aware of, 'talk show' wasn't a category until recently. So that's hopeful!

I'm excited to get a look at STEMtv & give it a shot for Chezy Champs.

FYI, all of these concerns [disabling or offering control over ads, full transcodes, special categorization] are solvable and are things that Twitch takes care of for partners and special events on a regular basis. All totally solvable.

The stream for Chezy has really shined when things are working well but uptime has been wanting. Venue internet can be a struggle for sure.

One thing I miss is being able to watch on my phone or tablet; with the Twitch/YouTube apps this is very easy. But the embedded player is Flash, not HTML5, so I haven't been able to watch on mobile. I haven't tried to grab the manifest and play it back in another video player.

It turns out that streaming 1080p 60fps video while uploading 1080p 60fps video to YouTube was a little much for this network to handle. Chezy Champs has stopped the uploads for now and the stream is back and stable.
Unfortunately, the stream availability would have happened regardless of which streaming service was used.

Guess we can't have everything.

I agree that watching streams on the phone and tablet is convenient and important. STEMtv has a meeting tomorrow to work on delivering that via a player that has a mobile SDK. We're in our infancy, but we're working hard to tailor our service to the STEM community.

Sweet. Let me know if you would appreciate some input on the Android side, I know the Twitch Android app inside and out

For you mobile users: https://fangeugene.github.io/stemtv-...cc_mobile.html

It is also viewable within our development version of the TBA Android app. But that hasn't been released yet due to some bugs. The point is it will be available during the 2016 season.
