Fantastic video, definitely one of the best I have seen especially with regards to mentoring.

FRC needs more of these type of videos to help mentors.
We need better ways to train new mentors about the inner workings of coaching, strategy and robot practice.

Personally, I wasn't particularly happy with how the editing portrayed some of the coaching.

How do you think the editing misrepresented the reality of what happens behind the glass? Was the portrayal too rosy, or too harsh?

I really appreciated being able to capture the coaches first responses to frustrating situations and then to see them regather themselves and pull their teams together. The passion, the intense focus on the moment, and then the ability to step back and see the big picture is a progression that some people move through more quickly than others. These coaches seemed exemplary.

One important lesson demonstrated by several coaches was "no excuses." Identify the behaviors that led to less then optimum performance and have real conversations about them that give students ownership and vision for improvement.

I think it focused almost exclusively on adult coaches yelling at students. Very little of the guidance portion of coaching was shown.

This was definitely worth the watch, and had me on an emotional roller coaster for sure. Every time I watch these amazing teams, or see videos of worlds, I long with all of my heart that I could be there, but as a junior, I deem it to be unlikely that my team will make it to worlds while I am still in high school. We've been around for 6 years, and our record is making quarterfinals at a district event. I just dream of a day when our team might take home a blue banner from a district, or even make it to district champs, and I grow extremely jealous of the "elite teams." But then I have to remember that we're still a fairly new team, that there is so much more to learn, and that FRC truly is more than robots, and much more than winning a competition. Sure, it would be nice to win or move on, but in the mean time, I've made it my main focus to increase my skills and help my team grow. It's because of these amazing teams, for example, 118. I look at some of their reveal videos, and just ask HOW?! But "how" in the sense that I want to learn about the complex workings of their robots and get on their level throughout the course of my life. It's because of these teams that I am so driven to be the best that I can be, whether that's making it to regionals, or just building a robot that I'm proud of. Either way, I'll always be thankful for FIRST and FRC for pointing my life in the direction it's going now, and for all of the teams out there that make me want to be the best that I can be.

I thought it was particularly nice after the 254/973 quarterfinal when Travis from 254 first vented, Adam responded with an apology and then the 2 walked away with Travis's arm over Adam's shoulder. We all get frustrated, but we also need to act to ameliorate our relationships quickly. That was a great example. (And then 254 selected 973 at Chezy Champs to make it to an exciting finals, after a bit of ribbing of 973 during the qualifying.)

Loving how it shows the emotions behind the glass! A lot of people don't understand what it's like and this shows the diffrent kind of situations and reactions teams go through.

The most amazing thing is the documentary made Recycle Rush look exciting and dramatic. It's almost like it was done by CGI!
