Either way why is the main thread about the hint in the general form why not the rumor mill. Shouldn't things like game hints be in the rumor mill?

Mostly because it's an official FRC communication from the FRC Blog. It's not a rumor that the teaser is happening.

Speculation about the content of the teaser would be an example of what's expected in Rumor Mill.
