Gears

What is a good place to buy gears or sprockets online for a robot's drive train?

Question

I suggest that instead of going online for the sprockets, visit your local bike shop. They might even give you a discount.

Why is it on MSC that they have some simple gears for like $256 are you buying in bulk or what?

Applied Industrial

I had really good service from a local manufacturer's rep. called "Applied Industrial" to get our gears. They sell Martin gears and they always could get the gear delivered in 1 day.

We used 20 pitch gears, and Applied had many more standard sizes than MSC had, and the price was cheaper. I would not even know the part number, and just by telling them what type of gear we needed, they would get it.

If you search for Applied Industrial, and there is one near you, give them a try. Another similar company is Motion Industries... they would be similarly good.

Sorry, I was mistaken. We actually bought our gears from Applied Industrial Technology, as well.

I wouldnt suggest buying Sprockets from a bicycle shop. These sprockets are nowhere near the same strength as the kind used for robots. Also, you are going to have trouble mounting them, as it is not the same as standard sprockets.

We bought all our gears and sprockets from Motion Industries. We've been happy with their service, and have had no problems.
