Halloween Fun!

This Highlanders, #4499, wanted to have a little fun with their practice bot so they decided to "dress" the robot up for some fun on Halloween. Instead of getting candy, they walked the neighborhood and handed it out! The robot was such a hit and they ran out of candy and had a ton of little kids wondering how they can build their own robot! Did anyone else "dress" up their robot?

Re: Halloween Fun!

Would have been funny if that was the 2014 bot and you used it as a candy catapult

Does a LAN party in a basement count as "Halloween Fun"? Since that's what my friends and I did on Halloween.

Re: Halloween Fun!

Very neat idea and the fact that you guys are getting little kids "thinking" about building or designing something is a plus!

Drive system? Mecanum, Swerve, or any other drive enabling to go sideways would be very cool.

Re: Halloween Fun!

Thank you for all of the nice comments, We had fun building this robot. It would have been cool to do mecanum, however it would ruin the wheels to drive on the concrete streets in the neighborhood.

Re: Halloween Fun!

The idea of building a spider robot came up after another team mate and I decided that would should try and take our 2015 robot and go trick or treating with it. This idea in turn was sparked by our parents not allowing us to go trick or treating because we were "too old". However, when we realised that the robot would be unable to climb stairs and get to the candy we decided to change to passing out candy would still be a fun way to take a robot out on Halloween.

The entire idea of the spider bot was thought up and assembled in the week prior to Halloween. The spider itself was built mostly Halloween afternoon in 2 or so hours. Prior to this, however, we had a fully operation chassis and that was constructed last year prior to the season.

Re: Halloween Fun!

This would be a great idea for trunk or treat at church next year. We usually have Cowtown Throwdown that weekened, but if this is on another day, we could possibly hand out. Our church has cars in the parking lot, but also games in the gym. This would be a great idea.
