Go to Post I urge them to build the kitbot and repeateadly smash it into a concrete wall in order to sate their anger. It will soon wane when they manage to do more damage to the wall than to the kitbot. That is honestly the reason that we ended up using the kitframe this year. - Andrew Blair [more]

Always interested in more wheels, can't wait to see what Andy has here.

While we're discussing hex shaft and the like, one product I really would like to see from FRC suppliers are clamping hubs. They're a very simple solution to most of the problems of positioning things on shafts, and allow you to use simple round shaft, to boot.
I agree. Clamping hubs would especially be beneficial for rapid prototyping. For a good deal of FRC applications a single piece shaft collar style clamp would be adequate in terms of torque.

If they are the same wheels that they had at IRI, they are pretty neat. There are two new compounds, a "one match" and "one event" wheel. Unfortunately, I forgot the exact durometers. The "one match" wheel was very soft and grippy so I would imagine it would be great for non-drive uses.

I'm eager to see these unveiled!

I heard the same thing at Worlds when I got to talk to them. I believe it was 30 and 45 durometers, but don't quote me on that.

Re: New Products for 2016: Speculation, Wants

What I would love to see is an output for the versa planetary gearbox that is a 1/2" hex clamp. That way tears can make the output shaft as long as they want. Ideal for intakes and power rollers.

This is why vex came out with the hex shaft coupler. http://www.vexrobotics.com/vexpro/ha.../217-4008.html

I saw those too--very nice wheels, and they had the same tread as their HiGrip wheels but with softer materials as you mentioned (blue and black compounds IIRC). However, I was thinking of uses in FTC as opposed to FRC, where the HiGrip wheel is illegal, or where damage to game pieces are a concern...hence, my personal want for "grippy" wheels with less aggressive tread (or no tread).

I'm not gonna comment on pros/cons of hex...

But banebots seems to have relaunched their website with some new products including colson hubs with both 3/8 and 1/2 keyed shafts. (http://www.banebots.com/category/COLSON_HUBS.html)

They will even install them if you order the wheels that way. Pricing isn't bad. No comments on availability or quality though, haven't ordered any yet.

That clamp hub is glorious, and reasonably priced.

We need more of that.

Two years ago I went to visit the BaneBots facility and drove back to my team with those exact hubs and wheels. They were amazingly good, we used the same set of 1 1/2" X 4" wheels with the 3/8" hubs throughout the 2014 season with ZERO problems. If you want to use Colsons, but don't want the hex axle for some reason, these are probably the best way to go.
