The fact that that robot actually works better then anything my team has ever built is kinda sad.

They do take awhile, but if you assemble then right the first time, they generally don't open up over use. Quality of hubs certainly affects this. We've only had issues with wheels when they weren't initially assembled correctly.

If you've done it once or twice and have the right tool, it only takes 2-3 minutes and it will never slip. We ran crazy torque on them in 2011 and 2014 and only ones that were assembled with the bead clearly popping out ever slipped.

The tires are 1.9 and 2.2 Chisels from Proline, on Axial 1.9 and 2.2 8 Hole beadlock hubs. We directly hex broach the axial hubs (which yes, unfortunately means you have to buy new hubs each year for comp bot for an essentially COTS part).

Those look about like the hubs we used (Brando brought 'em in to try)

Guess it's just a practice thing, I remember it getting easier over time but it still seemed to be a pain. Better lighting might have helped.

Re: Tem 973 Pruhzents: SKYSTALKER-ER

Very nice! It looks (and performs?) frighteningly like a simplified 254 robot... Just shows how much good design can get you, even if 'build quality' isn't the finest.

Its weird to think about how this video session started almost 3 years ago when 118 just wanted to print some copies.

Re: Tem 973 Pruhzents: SKYSTALKER-ER

After looking at that robot a little more it occurred to me that there must be some complex math driving the angle of that curved back. I was woundering if someone might be able to outline that for me.

Intake portion is a 25" radius, then there is ~9" of straight vertical, then the shooter is 23" radius.

Not complicated at all

Could be laid out by hand easily w/ some straight edges, some string and a marker.

CAD sketches are your best friend.

Can you post some documentation about the process of building this? I think this would shed some light on the prototyping process of the best of teams.
