Launching Hook

Hi, I'm Victor Chang and I'm participating in this years FTC competition, FIRST Res-Q. For our bot idea, I was thinking of launching a hook with surgical tubing on a guide to hook on the pull-up bar in cliff zone. I was wondering if this would be violating any rules about launching parts of your bot.

Re: Launching Hook

Hi, I think there's two rules that I think you should consider for this design:

You might be already aware of this one, but because of <GS18> in game manual II, the robot cannot contact the pull up bar before the end game. That would probably complicate the design that you're describing if your team is aiming to climb the mountain both during teleop and the end game.

I'm not too certain about the part about launching a hook, because I couldn't find anything specific that directly addresses parts of the robot that are being launched while still attached to the robot, but in game manual I, <RG11> states that parts of the robot cannot be launched.

I hope that helps!

Re: Launching Hook

Two questions:
Is it dangerous and
is there an extension limit (in the rules)?

FYI,

You can only climb in end game which is the last 30 seconds of teleop. It would only need to happen once.

Re: Launching Hook

It would depend on the robot design, but climbing the mountain would also be necessary for robots that score by dumping which is probably the simplest mechanism for scoring debris in the mountain goals.

Though, climbing the mountain during teleop wouldn't be necessary for robot designs like 4997's: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ae9niYFiuYY

Teams can also climb in autonomous as well for a decent amount of points as well.
