Lightbulb Microsoft HoloLens: FIRST Robotics Simulator

Many of you have heard of Microsoft's HoloLens and if you have not look it up: IT IS EPIC!
Right now Microsoft is reaching out to the HoloLens community for app ideas that they could build for the HoloLens. This is great because if the idea is popular enough Microsoft themselves will build it.
I have submitted the idea of a FIRST Robotics Simulator app for the HoloLens. You can check it out here.
This application would provide the user a simulated version of FIRST Robotics fields and robots.
FTC and FRC teams would be able to see models of the competition field and be able to import CAD files of their robots into the simulation.
This would be extremely helpful because teams could see their robot to scale with the field before they have to build anything. In addition, it could work in conjunction with FRCSim so teams could simulate and program their robots before building them.
If you think this would be a great application please like the idea. It would be so cool if this became a reality.

Re: Microsoft HoloLens: FIRST Robotics Simulator

Can I recommend more information included in your description? You might gain traction with those in the know, but it will be rough to get others who might be unfamiliar with FIRST to jump on board. Easy examples are:

What is FIRST Robotics? FRC? FTC?
What it FRCSim?
Why is it helpful to see scale models on a field? (think for those who don't know what the competition is)

I liked it, a little bit more background info for those who aren't directly involved could gain a little more interest. Use lots of buzzwords and express why other people should care too.

Oh, no worries. The HoloLens team knows about all FIRST and FRC. You can trust me on this.

Not sure what exactly dlavery referring to in his post, however in 2012 every field came equipped with 2 Microsoft Kinects. Also every team that year had one donated to them in the KOP. On top of that they are also one of the championship sponsors. So I think it is fair to assume that Microsoft is aware of FRC.

I would guess that Mr. Lavery knows this through one of two channels: His role at his day job (which could involve high-level discussions with those folks regarding applications of the technology for NASA folks), or his role on the FIRST Executive Advisory Board, which would give him a chance to know about the discussions. Or both.

Also note that the Microsoft Kinect was issued to teams in 2012...

If Dave says something like that, I'd trust him.

Wasn't it Dave that was talking about the work he was doing with the Mars Rovers using the Hololens at Championship a while ago? I figure he knows.

I remember something about this, too...like NASA was/will be using the HoloLens to help drive the Mars rovers.

I even remember him saying there might be future possibility of teams having access to the device as well.

Re: Microsoft HoloLens: FIRST Robotics Simulator

Given speculation of what the price will be at launch time ($500+) is this really a viable option for teams? You would need at least 2 to make it really useful. 2 drivers (add in a coach and HP if you want) or analyzing the field/ field components (need at least one person to bounce ideas and examine the field with you).

Re: Microsoft HoloLens: FIRST Robotics Simulator

2016 game confirmed. Each team has one hp that they can give to one of their drive team members. The entire driver station will be black and drivers can only see the field on a HUD which may I add only shows robot position. and only the person with the holo lens can see the gamepieces.

The dev kits that will be available early next year are priced at $3,000 which is probably a reasonable price given how much processing power is in each of those. They're the equivalent of a high end gaming PC with dual or quad SLI miniaturized to be small enough to fit on your head.
