Standard Question?

What are people using as the standard supports? Wood, PVC, or something else? Can you please post some pics if possible?

Re: Standard Question?

I think Bluejackets' question refers to the Team Standard (flag-like thing). My team made ours out of two 1/2" diameter wooden dowel rods. We attached them to each other by drilling two holes into a wooden block so when the dowel rods were inserted they made a T. We use eye-hooks to attach our flag to our support

Re: Standard Question?

While our team hasn't started working on our standard yet to my knowledge, really it's up to you. I personally would recommend wood, seeing as it's more aesthetically pleasing for a standard, and you can change the woods darkness or paint it easier to make it look better with the standard's main color scheme.
Note, PVC is probably a bit cheaper, but wood looks a lot better

Re: Standard Question?

Robopromo is offering Team Standard materials this year (kits and raw materials). Our design includes a wooden cross beam that is ready for assembly.

Re: Standard Question?

Honestly, my first thought on reading the specification was aluminum tubing. Wood is good, PVC will probably last through build season. If you like to keep displays up for years into the future, make sure you keep PVC out of the sun and other UV sources. The team is supposed to decide on a design tomorrow.
