How much time will you spend on each task?

How much time will your robot spend on breaching, shooting, and climbing? Just want to know😄

Roughly twice as much time as we think it will take!

Re: How much time will you spend on each task?

So far we've spent the past few days prototyping certain items, taking about 4-5 hours on each task. All the prototypes we've tested have worked really well so far despite the quick build time.

However long our robot takes to perform the tasks, it is certain to be two seconds more than we'd like it to take........

I'm the strategy mentor on the team and my job is so easy with questions like this...

Last night, to the team prototyping climbers, I said: "I'd like the robot to be able to do the full climb in under two seconds." They looked at me as if I were nuts. (Okay, no argument there.) I responded, "If you can do it even faster, that would be better."

To the team prototyping the shooter: "See if you can get a shooter to release the ball the instant the computer's targeting system lines up with the target."

To the team looking at ways to get through the Sally Port, Portcullis, Drawbridge and Cheval de Frise, "We like to be able to drive right through these things as if they weren't there - no pauses." A response, "How do we do that?" Me: "I dunno, you are the engineers, not me. I'm just a strategy guy. Faster is better."

The fact of the matter is, almost no matter how quickly you are able to get your robot to accomplish a task, there is always a faster way to do it.... We won't know just how quickly we can accomplish some of these tasks until our first district competition - or even later.

Re: How much time will you spend on each task?

I was more thinking along the lines of amount of game time, i.e. 15 seconds Auto, 30 seconds breaching, etc.

Re: How much time will you spend on each task?

Well, people already know for scaling. Sub-20 seconds or bust.
As well, some of the defenses should take the same amount of time to breach as it would if there wasn't a defense there.
The rest of the game, only time will tell. Some of the cycles can be estimated based off of like 2010/2012 times, but who knows.

Climbing 0-20 seconds

Breaching
Capturing..... Depends on what other bots do what they do well they do we do the rest.

Learned the lesson last two years, you have to do it all not just some things well.

Re: How much time will you spend on each task?

If the question is how long each task will take, I agree with everyone else, its very hard to know, ideally the least amount of time possible of course. If you're asking how much time we're planning on dedicating to each objective per match, for our team at least, it depends on our alliance members and what spot we need to fill. It depends on how many different defenses they plan on crossing, if they're able to shoot well, or if they're able to defend well. If someone else is breaching defenses for us, there's no need for us to use anything other than the low bar, if the other bots plan on only breaking down one defense, then we'll dedicate time in the beginning of the match to clear a few, etc..

Re: How much time will you spend on each task?

For a serious answer, we figure it's going to take us somewhere around 20-30 seconds to get a boulder, cross a defense, and score....if things go well. So, we are not likely to get more than 5 crossings and 4 goals scored each match, by ourselves. What actually happens...we'll find out in March.
