Camera mounted on robot

Can anyone tell me what the best camera to use would be, and how we could stream that to our computer during competition? Thanks!

Re: Camera mounted on robot

I'm pretty sure it has to be hooked up to whatever signal you're using to control the robot; I don't think you can use a separate connection. We use a wifi router (I'm not sure if that's required or not). As to which camera to use, perhaps a gopro or something similar in size? I don't know any specifics.

Not enough detail is given, is this camera for the game or just recording?

If it's for the game any regular USB web camera will do, just plug it into the RIO and make sure that it's coded properly to accept and transmit the video feed.

Keep in mind there are bandwidth limitations so framerate, frame size, and even color may be variables that you need to tweak to stay under that limit.

Re: Camera mounted on robot

These cameras work nicely for use in match. They have to be powered by the bot (use the Voltage Regulator Module) and are connected via Ethernet to your robot's radio/bridge. Don't worry about a high quality, you'll have to turn it down to 320x200 or something in that range during a real match anyways.

For just recording during the match and NOT using the camera for vision during the match or as part your code, then a GoPro works very nicely.
