Raspberry Pi 2 with Microsoft Lifecam HD3000

Team 3322 is having problems getting our USB webcam working with our raspberry pi running raspbian wheezy for image processing. The webcam works on my laptop in Ubuntu just fine, and enumerates on the pi just fine. I was also able to take a picture the first time I plugged the camera in at a meeting earlier this week. However, now, seemingly no matter what I do, I cannot get the Pi to recognize the camera. V4L2 alternates between "operation not permitted" when trying to access /dev/video0, and "/dev/video0 does not exist". I used a USB power meter to check if the cam was getting enough power, and found that the draw on the Pi was the same as it was with my laptop. I am at a loss as to what could be wrong here, everything I've read online says this camera is plug and play. Anything anybody could suggest as a solution to this problem would be greatly appreciated!

Ended up reformatting the pi and the camera seems to work now.

For others stumbling upon this thread, I've found that the tools generally needed for our purposes are better supported on Jessie than on Wheezy.
