WCP SS Gearbox dual CIM?
http://www.wcproducts.net/wcp-ss-gearbox
From what I've seen, there is absolutely no option to order this gearbox in a dual CIM version. Am I missing something? If I'm not missing something, is there a way to convert it to dual CIM without the extra piece of the motor plate sticking up on top where the third CIM would have been mounting? |

Re: WCP SS Gearbox dual CIM?
It's a great product, happy with ours. I'm printing/testing an encoder mount for CTR encoder, if that helps will post later today.
I would leave the 3rd cim if you can make it fit. You never know..... Last edited by Dad1279 : 30-01-2016 at 08:49. |

If you could post that encoder mount that would be awesome! My team is skeptical about the encoder in axle style mount because of the way it's held down by the encoder wire. I'm looking at the cad for the WCP SS gearbox, if you look on the back of the gearbox underneath the motors where the pancake piston would be if the gearbox were a DS model, you'll notice that there's a 1/4" hole in the back of the drive axle (if you haven't replaced it). There are also two holes flanking the drive axle. My thoughts on an encoder mount would be to 3D print some type of bracket to bolt into those flanking holes, and then have a face plate that the CTR encoder can bolt into. Keep in mind that the encoder shouldn't be loose, but the mount should have enough flex so that when the gearbox is under a normal amount of stress, the encoder isn't forced to also endure that stress and can move slightly. |

Re: WCP SS Gearbox dual CIM?
You don't have to hold the encoder still by ziptying the wires. They come with threads on the front face and a nut, so you just need to make a plate with a 3/8" hole in it to shove the encoder into, and 2 smaller holes to mount onto the two holes on the WCP gearbox. Same as CTRE encoder mounting you described, only with a 3/8" hole in the middle.

Re: WCP SS Gearbox dual CIM?
We used the mounting holes for the topmost CIMs to mount support bars (the 5/8" igus beams that are in the KOP each year) that span our chassis. We then 3D printed mounts for our speed controllers that are attached to the support beams.
