Brochure Examples?

Hello!

We need to make a brochure for our robotics team. Anyone have any ideas of what we can put on it other then sponsors and some pictures?

Statistics about your team.
-Number of mentors and students
-Ratio of male/female students
-Number of hours worked building a robot
A mission statement.
Yearly Budget.
Contact information.
Map to your super-secret lab.
Methods that people who will see the brochure can get involved
-Joining the team as a student
-Joining the team as a mentor
-Joining the team as a sponsor

That's just a few...

Re: Brochure Examples?

I would start with some basic questions and use those to drive the design of the brochure.

Start with the purpose of the brochure. Who is the audience? What is the call to action?

For example: recruiting students, recruiting mentors, initial community awareness, invitation to participate in an upcoming event, a call for sponsorship, or some combination of the above.

The message will be different for each of those audiences, and so will the content. A brochure recruiting students will talk about how fun it is, and maybe not include stuff like the team's annual budget, while a brochure targeting sponsors will focus more about the team's business plan, STEM outreach goals, and may include financial numbers. Even the tone should be customized, e.g. "students will learn and be challenged" vs "you will learn and be challenged".

The second question to ask is how you will print it, because this will affect your layout decisions as well. If you're going to do black and white photocopies at Staples, I would use fewer photographs and simpler graphics (and a white background) than if you're having a print shop do glossy full bleed 4/4 color.

One thing I would suggest is, when possible, make your brochures generic enough to be reused. If you put "2016 season" and your 2016 team fees on the brochure then you'll need to print new ones each year. If you can afford to do color offset printing, do so. Once they set up the press the cost to print goes down substantially. For example a local print supplier I use charges $99 Cdn for 100 brochures, folded double-sided full color. At that price you may be tempted to just go with Staples color photocopying. But to print 1000 brochures is $298 Cdn, and suddenly it's much more worthwhile.

Here is an example from PWNAGE #2451. This brochure is usually used for just general outreach.
