We just used a mini vice with flat jaws. The connectors have grooves for the wires, so it was pretty easy to get things aligned properly and crimped.

Omar and Mike... you're both getting bright pink t-shirts that say "I like ribbons" if 900 gets back to St Louis again this year. I love these encoders but I hate these cables.

The ribbon cables aren't my preferred choice, but they work.. We just extend the wires connected to the breakout boards and use the ribbon cables sold on the CTRE website.

Re: Longer Talon SRX Data Cables

Hello 1389 here,
We have been ditching the short data cables and we are now using this ribbon cable: http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...100-ND/3867658
And these ends: http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...645-ND/3883465
Just make sure that you orient the ends the same way that the data cable ends are or else the encoders will not get power. (We went through a lot of debugging before we figured this out)

Hope this was helpful
