Re: How far are you?

Due to some rhino tread difficulties (messing with height, actually making them, etc) we finished almost all of the robot today. Once a couple of limit switches are put in, and the radio gets transferred over (along with code) it will be 95% ready. (you are never finished) Monday shall have us a working robot!

Re: How far are you?

We are doing pretty good compared to our past years. We just need to get the bumpers completed, program some auto modes, try some vision stuff, and add more sensors.

Where's the option for "scrambling around in an attempt to have something before bag and tag"?

Re: How far are you?

Right now we have a cage or frame you would say. We are waiting on parts to mount the electronics, and still figuring the best way to organize the electronics. We have been testing some of the items on our robot by using a switch connected to a battery like with our actuators and shooters. We have a practice event on Saturday we need to be done by. I'm hoping we will be done earlier so our drivers can get use to driving. We think we could wire up the electronics on Monday while others are finishing our shooter.

Re: How far are you?

Define "done". We have a driving chassis for practice, are wiring the competition chassis and mounting the gizmos (ball collector/ejector and manipulator arm) this weekend, and will probably have a driving robot with nice mechanical elements by bag & tag. But we will be coding, testing and debugging up to and beyond our first competition. We are trying to do a lot with software this year and may not get it all done. The software team has worried brows.

We're never done, until the season's over.

Re: How far are you?

We sort of drove today. We went under the low bar and over four defenses. I didn't realize until I got home that we did not drive over the ramparts, but we did go over a pre-tottered cheval de frise. The only place where we could tortuga ourselves was on the moat when we did it light (and with a CoG that was practically over the middle wheel). When we ran with a behind-center CoG, we didn't find a situation we couldn't drive out of, even from a dead stop. It looks like being underweight will pay off in that we will have plenty of margin for ballast.

We also tested the ball pickup (off-robot) against our wooden portcullis, and that worked. Assuming we get our pneumatic cylinders, we should have everything mechanical functioning by next Saturday, when we plan to bag.

Edit: I checked "next weekend". We'll be programming and practicing driving and tweaking on the second robot until the season's over.

Re: How far are you?

It's unfortunate for us and the other canadian teams going down to palmetto thus year. We're all losing out on our last 2 days of build season. In order to make it to the competition with a little breathing room, we are leaving the Monday before bag and tag bright and early. So we actually end up having to do our bag and tag next Saturday (our last build session).

If all goes according to plan, we'll be mostly done in under 77 days.

Re: How far are you?

Today we finished our practice robot 100% and started on the frame for our final competition robot. The only thing we have to add is the climber, which will probably be added at the first competition.
