High goal shooters, where are you shooting from?

As I talk to teams I have found that most either are designing to drive right up to the tower and shoot or are planning to shoot somewhere in the courtyard. We plan to shoot from as close to the tower as possible to maximize our accuracy. Where are you planning to shoot from?

Re: High goal shooters, where are you shooting from?

Driving on to the ramp of the castle and shooting straight up seems to be your best bet. Defensive robots can't really disrupt your accuracy and you're going to be shooting from the same spot every time. This is what we are doing.

Re: High goal shooters, where are you shooting from?

Our team is shooting from the batter since we believe that having a solid position shooting position to shoot from will be just as important (if not more) as in 2014. Being able to only control one ball; accuracy is gonna have to be key, and I just don't see teams shooting from the outerworks on the uneven angles being consistant. even if they don't have to deal with defense.

every high shot is a parabola...arc going up gets us the batter, arc going down gets us ten feet out.

About the same here. We're planning for our long shot to be at a range where the bumpers are over the outer works (when we're being defended), and the short shot will be fairly close to the batter (higher percentage shot when the courtyard is clear).

Re: High goal shooters, where are you shooting from?

I don't know, we're still working getting everything running. I'm guessing we will shoot from wherever we can make a shot into the high goal. And if it doesn't work out so well, we'll play the low goal instead.

Edit: Mikey found a good setup for our shooter this evening - VERY consistent from shot to shot, enough that we are confident that we can make this work. Bri is in beast mode working out targeting on a pi. Now we're just waiting on some pneumatic cylinders from Bimba** and a bit of programming from Tiffany to make it sing. We expect to bag Tigger* with a system that can be made to work with proper programming, and have our practice robot, Roo*, shooting 90%+ by Bayou, and to fine-tune Tigger's launcher on Thursday. The ball pickup still has some work to go, but I haven't felt this good about our situation during week 6 ever.

* Names Tigger and Roo seem to have taken hold. In addition to being close enough to the official T1G3R^5 name, Tigger's bottom is made (maid?) out of rubber (the lowermost skid plate is cut from a rubbermaid brute trash can purchased to prototype Veronica's Oscar costume last year), and his top is made out of springs (inverted from the song, but who's counting?). Roo was essentially Tigger's little brother for much of the Pooh series, so he's the practice robot.

** We've made a couple of stand-ins for a Bimba Flat-I cylinder out of dimensional lumber, dowels, and PVC which has been invaluable for getting the configuration working. There's more information in those 2-D drawings than most people realize. This is a really good thing, because we probably won't get the cylinders in hand before bag day.

Actually know 2502 personally, they aren't going low bar. The antennas are used to help see where the robot is positioned behind defenses. They are about 20" without a climber.

They have been able to do 6-8 cycles a match going over the moat for every cycle.
