Climbing

How many teams originally thought they were going to make a climbing mechanism during build season but aren't building one at all or building it after stop build day also, how many teams have a climbing mechanism? And is climbing really worth it?

Re: Climbing

Funny, I was thinking about an hour ago about the same thing. A lot climbers mentioned in the polls, but I can't find any on CD or youtube. Are they not being shared, not being built, or is it just everyone having as much fun as we are trying to get it to hook on correctly?

Re: Climbing

2386 has our climber built and ready for palmetto next week. Some fine tuning to do on the Thursday however we've been doing controlled climb tests for the past week and did our first successful driver operated climb today. The next step is for us to automate the climbing process with option of a manual override incase things go wrong.

I'll try and get some footage up of it in the next day or so.

We just broke our climber rather spectacularly, so we'll have to see....

Re: Climbing

3512 should be climbing at the Long Beach regional. Like a lot of teams, we're still fine tuning some modifications but the robot has climbed already.

Re: Climbing

We're not listed.

Of course we wanted to climb, but it was the first capability we back-burnered. Not surprisingly, we aren't so far ahead that we picked it back up, and I'm not sure where we'd put a climber if we had enough time. As far as build development, we're going to be spending the next few weeks tweaking the manipulators to go in the withholding allowance.

Re: Climbing

Ugh yesterdays first practice was rough.... the game is/can be brutal on your bot (and that is without an active defender)

As for the climber for the most part it worked what did not was the balance on the climb we cold climb but listed to one side due to the battery. We likely will still try to climb and have to figure out a solution to balance on way up. At our practice the hang bar was higher diameter than our sample so our hook needs redone (as that is regulation size for some reason ours was thinner)

First thing we need to fix is our entire shooting mechanism as it got tweaked bad (Ran into defense with it). Need to go to steel mount.

As for the manipulators those need redone too.

I think this game is going to be very rough on teams as we usually build a very robust bot, this time we underestimated the wear and tear on it especially on key systems. Directly tied to no real practice until yesterday.

The treads worked well except on of the pulley screws worked its way out delaying us while we figured it out.

Our climber is on the robot waiting for it to be programmed and tested. We should have it up and working for the Greater DC and Northern Maryland District events

Re: Climbing

Some initial tests of our climber. This was from about a week ago. The finished thing works much better than this. It actually clears the low goal (unlike in the video) and has mechanical latches to stop it from sinking below the line once power is cut. 2 seconds to climb up at full speed. A little less to extend.

Re: Climbing

Hmmmm... We've got a climber.... It seems to work when lifting things other than our robot.... We haven't mounted it or tried it on the robot.... We don't have code written for it.... It will most likely be a part of our hold back...
