Stop a cam at top dead center TDC

Well bag and tag is over. We have a cam on the output of a Toughbox mini with a mini cim powering the box. We have an encoder sensing the rotation. We where unable to create, test, and troubleshoot code to have the cam retun to TDC after the button is released. We are using the command bassed template. The cam may spin any number of rotations in either direction. When we are done we want to return to the top either continueing in the same direction or reverse. What might be a good way to do this? Should we check the current count by modulus 360 and continue to the next 360 increment. Any input. Its going to be tough to test now without a rio

Can you post your code?

Re: Stop a cam at top dead center TDC

I might consider a limit switch to sense TDC; your encoder is also self-calibrating. The switch doesn't need to be at TDC, just be able to close (briefly) when the cam is in the right position.

Re: Stop a cam at top dead center TDC

we used a cam in our shooter this year. we used a limit switch to stop it when it's fully loaded, and when we shoot its loads automatically and stops when it hits the limit switch again. You could also use an absolute magnetic encoder to sense where you are, or use the modulus, like you said

Re: Stop a cam at top dead center TDC

We have no code yet and testing will be tough without the rio. A limit switch does seem to be the bestangle. We will have to try and fit it at the show. We only had a day of code tests this year. I come from an industrial background with servos and encoders for positioning. When building this system I suggested an encoder. Should have designed for Limit switch
